ICON Billet UCA help

Ok so got the UCAs and going to do the install this morning. My question is that the directions said not to adjust the heim joint in the arm. When I received mine the heims were loose in the arm. Is ICON talking about the sleeve that the heim joint is actually in to not touch that? If that is the case should the sleeve be butted directly up against the arm? I have attached a picture of how i read the arm should be when installed to allow for the most outward adjustment.

Please give me some direction so I only have to do the install once.

Mike I think Icon is referring to the two bolts that hold that heim joint. Email Icon to be sure but I believe mine are installed like that.

Hi Mike,

I've added Scott@Hightech on here so he can chime in as well. he installed mine. But I agree with RiDE. I would expect the square part not be messed with; the collar for outward adjustment is different.

Okki

The directions are a little misleading until you understand how it all fits together. I take it all apart and anti-seize everything. The collar is reverse threaded on the inside. This is designed so that you can adjust the collar while on the vehicle. the heim is set a certain distance from bottoming out in the collar. They are adjusted all the way in at this point. You will just install them and when its aligned they will rotate the cams and bring the camber and caster within spec.

The bolts on the aluminium part are the pinch bolts that keep the collar from moving. They should be loose when ever adjusting and then torqued back down in a crisscross pattern until all the torque values are the same (this takes a few rounds).

The pinch bolts were loose so the collar was spinning free. I assumed the directions meant not to adjust the distance the heim is in the collar.

Everything is installed as the above photo and it's in the alignment shop. I will drive with it as is then hopefully find a shop that really knows how to use the UCAs to make adjustments.

Damn did not think about putting anti seize on everything. Well if I need to pull stuff off I will put it on then.

Looks like I got it right.

What is the best tool to use to adjust the collars?

Also anyone got good directions on adjusting these bad mama jamas so I can tell the tech

thought about it a little, And what icon is really saying is dont adjust the collar unless the arm is bolted in. You dont want the thread counts changing from what they are.

As far as tools. I have found an allen key works very well. Just the regular lenght L shaped keys, not sure which size i was using.

As far as adjusting, Just have them set it to 4 deg of caster, +.15 deg camber and .16 deg TOE IN.

Sounds good. Just going to drive it for a bit then take it back in.

Now which collar gets adjusted first? The front or the back?

Gosh I wish HighTech was closer!

There isn't a specific order in which caster and camber are adjusted. Keep in mind you still have to adjust the Cams on the LCAs as well. I usually start with the lowers Set to max caster and then adjust from there.

Thanks Scott. I will relay that all to the tech that works on the truck next time I bring it in.

Thank god for Firestone lifetime alignment. Definitely getting my money's worth.
