Icon front 2.5" COs don't fit...

Following the vague "charge port 30 degrees forward" installation instructions (which don't seem right) my new Icon coilovers won't fit. Specifically, with the top hat lined up, the bottom mount is crooked. I searched and found this thread, which has a few other owners using the same orientation, except they actually fit.

My problem is, regardless of top hat orientation, or swapping driver to passenger, there is no combination that will allow the bottom of the assembly to line up with the mount. This is the 3rd problem with the parts that they've sent me, it's getting ridiculous. Am I missing something?

use a prybar or a long bolt thru the eyebolt and turn the joint to fit in the mount

I did, that's as as far as it will go (the joint in the top hat is maxed out.)

Is the shock too short? If so try jacking up the lower control arm till you can put a bolt through. Sorry if that's wrong, it's hard to tell from the pictures.

You can keep turning it but it will get stiff the shaft and lower joint it separate from the upper mount but the tension of the spring makes it act as one unit.

The length is right, but the mount is clocked enough that you can't get a bolt through it.

In other words, get a bigger pry bar... I'll give it a shot.

Keep turning it. The shaft will turn free of the shock body/top hat, it will just be a ***** because of the compressive force from the spring.

Put a bar in the lower joint and keep turning, you actually have to turn the shock shaft inside the shock body to get the lower joint lined up. I had to do the same thing when I took my Donahoe's (Icon's) off my taco, and put them in my Runner. The top hat bolt pattern is different between the two.

I wish I could have test driven Kings & Icons before purchasing. Reading afterwords makes my think Kings would have been more of what I wanted. Either way, I'm eager to try the Icons.

Looks like your top hat is for a Tacoma.

Won't work as good as a 4runner top hat as its going to bind.

You can fix it by getting the right top hats or redrill the the holes in the frame.

Icon sells Stage 1 & 2 as the same part for 4Runner and Taco. They say the top joint has enough movement to work correctly. Stage 3 is unique to 4Runner, but it's overkill for me (don't need remote resis.)

The second one should go in easier. When I did my Boss coilovers I spent forever messing with getting that passenger bottom mounting hole lined up. Driver side took me 10 minutes to install and torque everything.

Looks like the top of the shock is touching the metal of the top hat though? I suppose it will wear away.

That was before I knew the bottom can rotate freely. It's lined up now.
