Icon Lift Install Problem

I installed an Icon Stage 2 lift with LR UCAs on my 11 TE with KDSS. Alignment has been completed and is in spec.

A noise from 35mph and up, that sounds like a bad wheel bearing, has presented itself and is becoming worse. There is also a significant vibration from the rear end from about 55mph and up.

The vibration feels like imbalanced rear tires, but gets progressively worse with higher speed, feeling like the axle is leaving the ground over 75mph.

Rotating tires has no affect, and no balance or noise issues before the lift. 2HI/4HI, same noise and vibration. Just greased and checked UJoints, they all seem tight with no play, but I have not removed the drive shaft to check for stuck joints, yet.

With jack stands under the rear axle and lower control arms, all wheels turn freely, with no abnormal noise and no play.

Tried loosening all of the rear suspension bolts (upper and lower links, panhard, shocks, and swaybar bolts), then re-tightening them to spec under the vehicle's weight. Again, to no affect.

At this point, I am planning to remove the entire lift tomorrow and see if the problem is still there, unless anyone has any ideas...:faint:

How high have you got it cranked up in the front? I had my Bilsteins set 1 perch too high (no winch or armour at the time) when I installed them. Anything over 50 mph presented front end vibration and an uneasy noise.

Only at 2 inches above stock in the front, about 2.25-2.5 higher in the rear. I can't be certain on the source of the noise, but the vibration is definitely from the rear.

I have nothing useful to add anymore, since I just realized you posted in this thread, so I'm sure you read already:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/135301-anyone-experience.html

but any chance you can have a friend drive behind you and see if there's anything unusual, like say....an axle leaving the ground?

Good luck, and I hope you resolve it quickly and painlessly! You're kind of freaking me out about ordering my lift parts this weekend

excessive driveshaft angles may cause that vibration, but at 2-2.5" i would not expect that. As you lift, the rear links pull the front output of the pinion down causing an increase in angle.
It does not vibrate at all when on jacks and rear is spinning? what speed are you taking it up to? cant recommend it, but maybe if it was put into drive when on stands you might hear something different. Possibly quite dangerous.
As mentioned, have someone follow you (or you follow as another drives it) and see what it looks/sounds like.
Rear springs seated correctly?

I just installed an ICON stage 5ish on my 5th gen and no issues. sorry to hear something isnt working correctly for you.

What he said...
The icon lift is pretty basic its just removing stock parts and swapping them out... (Never thought I would call that basic, it was a pain in the arss for me) But only thing that I can think of is that one of the rear coils didnt seat right, there is that little groove to make sure it's in.

Sucks to hear about this... hopefully the big kids that were so helpful to me while installing my lift will chime in and save the day.

What wheels and tires are you using?

Were they the same ones before you lifted it?

Are you using wheel spacers?

Other than the lift kit itself, what are the other variables that have changed?

Sorry to hear that. I did mine and had no issues.
The rear suspension is fairly simple and only things I can think of are
- Check rear spring if they are in the right place
- Check speed sensor
- If you have wheel spacers, take them off
- A defective ICON rear shock?

Good luck.

This may seem odd, but did you lube your front drive shaft also when you did the lift by any chance?

Also Strapp22 had the same issue with his and it turned out to be two things, aftermarket wheels, and the bushings in the lower front control arms gave out.

265 Duratracs, C rated with about 25K miles on ATX Mojaves, no spacers. Same as before lift, with no issues previously. No other changes.
