My Icon rear shocks are squeaking somewhat. I could not find any info related to the REAR shocks on here using search. Sounds kind of like a squeaky floorboard when I get into and out of the vehicle, and also can hear it when I go over small speed bumps, etc. By getting under there, I have determined that it is both of them, not just one. I called Icon and the guy says to put some lubricant on there while they are extended, go drive around for a while, and see if it goes away. He said it seems strange that BOTH of mine are squeaking, and that is likely is not a replacement deal...but these things squeak if you put even as little as fifty pounds or so of pressure onto the body. I can make it happen by using one hand pushing up on the frame while lying underneath. I have about 15k miles on these shocks now, with most of it on road. I have not ever taken it into deep water or any other super muddy situations, etc. They appear fairly clean to the naked eye.

Two questions:

1. Anybody else have this issue with their REAR Icon shocks? Mine are not remote resi...
2. What lubricants (brands, types, etc.) are you guys using? How are you applying? Any other tips?

That's what I'm getting to go with my Stage 6 install. [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] has been using it for years and it was his original recommendation I believe.

I have the exact same issue. I thought it was the rear seats, then the slide out rack........... driving me crazy. Mine sounds like a little bird in the back seat.
 
Okki, thanks. That's what I was looking for. FYI, West Marine carries this too, and they have a location in most major areas. Headed there now.

Hmmm...I really can't hear these rear shocks while driving unless the window is down and I'm at really slow speed. I hear it the most when getting into and out of the vehicle and also when I am leaving the garage or a parking space, etc. Are you sure this is the same issue on your rig? You will be able to tell by crawling under the back of the vehicle and pushing up on the body. Hope that helps...
 
I had a similar noise but mine was do to my sliders being installed a bit too high on the rear passenger side and were rubbing where it met the body.

Easy to identify since it started the day I installed the sliders... LOL
 
I had a similar problem after putting on a full suspension - turned out to be the rear sway bar was rubbing.
 
FWIW, I jacked up the runner and sprayed the aforementioned lubricant on some key areas. Noise is gone now. So simple! Love this forum! Thanks!

Squeaking again...

Soooo...now the rears are squeaking again...I will try Harper's recommendation above and see if it works better than the stuff I used before.
 
Mine started squeaking at 6K miles, but only after its been sitting overnite. It's garaged always. If I step on my sliders and rock it with my body weight first before pulling out it won't squeak. I have to pull out onto my very steep driveway and back into the turn around(wide spot) which is on a bit of an angle slope. As I do this it always squeaks unless I've rocked it first in the garage beforehand. After this initial squeaking its fine. Weird. It's fine and quiet the rest of the day, just doing this every morning. If it gets worse I'll try the lube. It would seem it just needs to get moving, kinda like me in the morning. Maybe it needs some coffee first;)
 
Mine is two weeks old and they squeak when going over speed bumps, plus I got MT long travel kit in the rear.
I told my mechanic about lubricating the shocks but he said there is a little rubber that would stop the lubricate from getting inside and it won't work. I don't know how true it is.

I've had similar squeeks on and off over the years. Still not sure exactly where its coming from. I usually just get under there and spray everything that moves. What is that lube u recommended made of? Will a lithium spray do the trick?

For me it's when it gets cold out it squeaks more. I always thought it was just due to the rubber bushings being a bit firmer in the cold causing squeaks, but who knows. I kind of gave up tracking down squeaks, I just turn up the radio, lol.
 
I spray mine with the can of T9 once a month. can't say I remember hearing any squeeks so far. I spray pretty much every moving suspension part under there; including the track bars etc.

It was never that bad anyway. I would of thought colder would have made it worse. Other thing is in the rain when it gets wet it also ceases

Glad to hear that's working for you. Its a little hard for me to crawl under there tho. It only started for me when the summer temps got up there. So maybe its a summer thing.
 
I was getting oil change at the toyota dealer and i have noticed that my rear MT Long Travel shocks are leaking. I contacted MT and they said that Icon would service them, but i was wondering why are they leaking? I only have 7K miles on them and went off road once. I did have a bad seal in the beginning and was getting dry squeaky noise, but Icon serviced them and everything went away. Now they are leaking, right more then a left. I'm sure Icon will service them and stand behind their products but i was wondering if anyone has an idea why it is happening.
 
Shoot, I don't have my 4runner yet, but was going to put on Icon stage 1...hopefully this is a somewhat isolated incident. I hope ICON takes care of it for y'all.
