So I'm doing my rebuild. Didn't have a ratchet strap. Spring compressors did the trick. Figured I'd share.

Shocking damage
Well, for a 2&1/2 year old thread, this one is still useful and relative.
Jeremy, did you ever rebuild the rear shocks? What about remote reservoirs?
My left rear ICON shock has a major fail... I was looking for the source of suspension noise and racking under the rear end that's been happening lately as I back out of my driveway. The left rear shock is disconnected, the bolt that holds it on the pin is gone. The threaded pin is intact and appears undamaged, The SS lower shock shin guard from ICON is gone and so is an acordian rubber shock cover sleeve I had plastic wire tied to the middle of the shock barrel. The ICON shock mounting part is pretty jammed up on the bottom where it has a swivel joint for attaching to the frame pin. Either the bolt worked loose and fell out some time ago or I jammed the shock at the lower mount pretty hard while off roading in late October. The shock may be hitting the pavement when the suspension bottoms out and that caused the nicks and gouges of the lower swivel joint shock mount. I don't know what happened but now I have to service or replace the shock.
I'll post a photo tomorrow when there's sunlight.
ICON says on their website that they no longer rebuild shocks in their factory. ICON is located in Riverside, CA, just under an hour from me. They list several places in the southwest that repair and rebuild shocks, including 3 in CA. Here's a link to one of them.

It's only money right? A new pair of shocks with reservoir and CDCV is $1300, MSRP. I'll find out tomorrow what the service charge may be. The shin guards are $131 per pair. The rubber sleeve was $18.
I can only blame myself. I did the suspension install and I'm the only one who drives it off road.
