icon stage 4 sr5 vs TE

Hello everyone I know this topic has most likely been covered , but I was looking for some advice on which model to go with. I was wondering if it is worth getting the TE over the sr5 if I'm going to add the icon stage 4 suspension. I've heard and read nothing but great things about the kdss on the trail. Im not really concerned about the aesthetics just the mechanical. Thanks

If price is not really an issue then get the TE so you get all the nifty little bits. But an SR5 with the ICON kit would be killer too. I am happy with my SR5 and there really isn't anything in a TE that I would want in my truck right now.

I have a TE with Icon stage 4 and it's fantastic. I am sure an SR5 would be great too.

The trail will have rear locker and other gizmos as well as the KDSS. If you're going to use them might as well get the TE I'd say.

Hopefully you heard the right things about it and not the myths. KDSS allows for a beefier sway bar for better on road handling and automagically disconnects on the trail, allowing it to flex more readily but doesn't give you any additional articulation/travel.

If you think you'll need a rear locker and don't want to go with an air locker, then the Trail is the way to go. Crawl control is neat and has gotten me out of a couple of spots where all else failed and we were getting a winch or strap ready, but to me it wouldn't be a dealbreaker feature. I think I tried multi terrain select a few times and didn't like it. Difficult to explain, but I haven't used it in over a year and I'm on the trails pretty often. The other TE feature that never gets mentioned is multi terrain ABS. I have no point of reference for it since I've never driven an SR5 or LE off road (actually, not even on road) but I do know my brakes have always performed well.

My main reasons for going with the TE over the other models were: rear locker, KDSS, water-resistant seats, and styling (I like the hood scoop).

How? I thought Crawl Control was just sort of like off road cruise control
Witchcraft would be my guess. Crawl control uses ATRAC and my guess would be some computer calculations on how to apply it proportionally to different wheels.

One situation last winter was at the top of an icy hill. Everyone was getting almost to the top of the hill before losing traction and polishing it up. The first guy made it up ok, but everyone after had more and more trouble, so the first guy had to pull them up the last bit. I was the last one up and got stuck in the same spot as everyone else. Locker and ATRAC didn't help. My buddy was just about to go get the strap when I hit the crawl control and it pulled me out of it.

Not sure if you can see this video without a FB account, but it's the first time I ever used crawl control on the trails. At a couple points in the video you can see my wheels slip, then the crawl control pauses and recalculates or something and pulls me out.
