Ideal Coil-over Height Settings....please explain?
So, what are the thoughts on the ideal lift height? It seems the general idea is ground clearance is king. and I know most guys go with 2.5"-3" lifts. But what about suspension down-travel and center of gravity? Correct me if I'm wrong here....My understanding is (with our IFS trucks) we are operating within the confines of a OEM design/ suspension geometry; essentially setting the ride-height further into the downward ROM of the suspension. So, this gives little remaining down-travel relative to stock suspension. Down-travel is a good thing in off road situations, as it keeps the tires in contact with the ground. And a lower COG is always a good thing as well. So, should we be only lifting our trucks as high as we need to fit larger tires? I'm thinking with a BMC, I could probably run a lower ride height and keep my 285's. I know there are other factors to consider like break-over angle and clearance? Any thoughts on this.....advantages/ disadvantages?
I'm interested to hear from the experienced off-roaders out there. What guided your decision on lift-height and suspension improvements?
