If not running boards...

So with the recent 2" lift, my wife has even more need of the running boards. It's not a serious rock crawler, rather a snow rig in WI. I wonder if the OEM running boards are a greater concern in snow states by retaining slush and road salt? If changed, would have to be something that was more slider-step rather than just slider.

Thoughts?

I've never noticed that they really hold onto the salt or ice melt chemicals, but i also make a point to spray down the undercarriage during the winter as often as i can. i know the n-fab nerf bars for 5th gens fit 4th gens and provide more of a slider/step appearance
 
I have the running boards on mine still as the wife needs them to get into the vehicle. They will hold ice/snow and all of the other crap that is on the road. I just keep cleaning them off each week in the winter.

I have a new set of Aries nerf bars in my shed that I have not installed as I'm not sure where all that winter crap will end up once I take off the boards.
 
I take my steps off during the spring/summer/fall, but do put them back on in the winter to prevent AS much brine/salt/chemicals coming up the side of the vehicle, but thats just my personal preference. Also here they put so much of the de-icer and chemical spray on it could eat a cars undercarriage away after a few seasons. Its for these reasons i'm always washing it in the winter.
