Unfortunately, a couple of days ago the Toyota Fleet website officially confirmed that the FJ Cruiser will be discontinued at the end of the 2014 model year.

I saw that the other day and immediately thought of this thread...

I meant no offense to anyone. It really never occured to me that the 4runner body on frame was in jeopardy. Given that my V8 07 was used as a battering ram by a truck here recently and I walked out unscathed, there is no one who is a bigger fan of the body on frame construction. But with 168000 miles I'll probably do one more timing chain/waterpump and at 250K+ will be in the market for a new vehicle. The only thing I don't like, is the gas mileage with the V8 sucks, but the torque rocks!!! Lexus is going to have to do something to stay competitive in the GX space as BMW and Porsche are both offering Diesels. So I looked into where Lexus is going with the GX. As I posted elsewhere, Lexus has officially indicated several times that they would like to go to a CUV/Unibody on the GX. Darned near certain that will be based on the 4runner, they aren't going to do a separate build for 1500 units.

Nothing would make me happier than a Diesel on a 4runner hell if they only offered it in the GX I'd pay the extra 20K, as long as they kept the body on frame. But the fact is that question is in the FAQ on the Toyota website and they clearly state there are no plans for a diesel for the US.

While I might not like it, I think it's going to be a CUV with a hybrid option.

Seriously I might do the last year they do the body on frame with the V8 on the GX and eat the gas mileage.

But then you're talking X5 diesel or a Cayenne diesel dollars.

I'm thinking I need to start stashing away some serious bank.
