IFS steering box hose routing.

Would somebody with IFS steering run out and have a look at your hoses for me? There's two lines running into the top of the steering box - one of them runs straight to the cooler tube in the core support, which one is it?

I forgot to pay attention when I took the old one off. :tongue1:

Anybody do me a solid here? There's two lines out the top of the IFS steering box. I need to know which one goes to the cooler tube, and I'd love to know this morning so I don't put it together wrong and waste a bunch ATF.

The smaller line goes to the cooler. Look down the holes in the box and you will see one hole is larger than the other. The larger one is the pressure side.

if looking down on box from top-

line on left and more toward the steering shaft routes toward your cooler and into the reservoir

line on rt. is the high pressure in coming from your PS pump

I'm working off of memory here but between the two lines, isn't one threaded and the other one clamped? Usually a threaded line will be the pressure line going to the cooler and steering box and the return is the bigger line that is clamped that runs from the reservoir to the pump.

yes, i dont think you can really put them on wrong....unless you try.

edit: also, what is this "IFS" thing you speak of?:D

Yup, I just figured that out and came inside to say "nevermind", but thanks anyway guys!

Except you're backwards, Nate. The smaller one (towards the firewall and outside) comes from the high pressure side and has the hard line, and the larger one has the barb fitting and goes to the cooler.

So, one has a barb fitting with a chunk of hose clamped to it, that's the low pressure side that runs to the cooler. The other one has a hard line with a fitting kinda like a brake line, just much bigger.

The stock hard line setup didn't line up with the new steering box, and there's not really room for all that mess anyway with the frame plates and bolts sticking out, so I had to frankenstein my hoses. I was trying to use the barb fitting on both sides, which is how I discovered the one side has different thread. :)

DOH! I forgot that you have an 85 that may have a different setup. Shoot, the gear box should specify the high and low ports or in/out. I assume it didn't?

Except it's not an '85 steering box any more. I'm using the IFS box now.

I didn't see where either port was labeled on the box case itself.

kid did you ever figure out which line goes where? i'm having the same issue trying to hook up my IFS box, why don't they label these dang boxes?

"A" is pressure, "B" is return.
