Ignition broke

This morning I got in my 4Runner and tried to turn the key. It turned as normal and the engine began to crank but halfway through the crank, the key no longer had resistance and everything died. I can now turn the key from off to start with no resistance and nothing turning on. I was thinking it was an ignition cylinder. Any ideas? Also if I get a new ignition cylinder, does that mean I have to get new locks everywhere? Thanks.

The switch unit is at the end of the ignition key.
Disconnect the battery and remove the lower dash panel. You can pull the cylinder out by having it at ACC position with the key in and pressing a butting located at 6 O clock.

Then you can see what happened to the cylidner.
I bought a cylinder on ebay for $22 shipped but a local store may ask $60 + tax.
You'll have two keys, one to doors and one for the ignition.

You can get a good locksmith to repin your new cylinder to match your existing keys.

Hopefully all it is, is a need for some new wafers in the cylinder and not the stem at the end of the cylinder. Things become a little more involved if that's the case.

I just deal with an extra key on my ring and money in my pocket. The locksmith i spoke with said $250 to repair the factory one. $23 for one key to start and one for the door was a no brainer for me.

Yeah that locksmith was lookin to rape you, no way in hell it should cost that much. They don't even change that much for high security keys around here. At the very most 100 to get the job done.

So I ordered a new ignition cylinder, popped it in and nothing has changed. Still no resistance when I turn the key. Any ideas of what else it could be?
