Ignition lock cylinder workaround in a limited

Hello all. getting back to doing some work on my daughters 4 runner. Having a problem with the ignition lock cylinder sticking. In the drivers door lock I removed a couple of the wafers, not as safe but works. I see several people have done this with ignition cylinders. difference is the Limited has a transponder key. From what I understand the transponder works from the ring around the cylinder. Would I be screwing things up to remove any damaged wafers . Thanks for any wisdom

Different aspects, they don't really have anything to do with one another. Remove wafers all you'd like, it won't impact the immobilizer system.

When you say sticking, do you mean the key will not turn to the lock position for removal?

Had this happen in my 4runner with the key that came when I bought it. I got by for a while just shoving the key from my dad's old highander into the keyway and wiggling. After that the worn key would work fine. Now I use a third party transponder key cut at the hardware store and it doesn't give me trouble. If you have any other keys around I'd make sure the problem is with the cylinder and not the key before pulling any wafers.

You may want to consider having a new key cut from a key tag if you have one (most are lost and gone they are a tiny silver tag when the car is first sold) A dealership can do this I don't know if a locksmith that deals with Cars can do it at any better of a price. Speaking with this type of Locksmith is who I would talk with first.:beer:
