Howdy folks! I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to anything Toyota. I've always been a Jeep guy. I've been reading the boards and I've read on several posts that the V-8 4runners are ALL 4 wheel drive models...is that true? If so, do they have selectable 4-LO and locking diffs? What is the power split to the front axle, 50/50, 60/40 etc...
Alos, are the hood scoops on the '05 Sports functional?

Weclome to the group. The V8s are all time 4 wheel drive, meaning that most power is driven to the back wheels, and only in case of slippage is power diverted to the front wheels. The trucks do have 4Lo, and you can lock the CENTER differential, which will force more power to the forward wheels. There are no front or rear lockers, but the ATRAC system (do a search for this topic), acts in a similar fashion and many people think it works almost as well as real lockers.

And no, the hood scoops are not functional, but you can find several threads on this board about how to make them functional.

I don't remember that anyone post about major problems with '05 V8. I, personally, have V6 with 25k and no problems so far.

-Sulfur TSB (may not even apply to you but good idea to check)
-Rocking or popping driver's seat. Mine has some play but not too bothered by it.
-Front right passenger window switch. Probably just isolated to me but my switch was acting erratic. Rolls the window down but not back up. Dealer fixed and no probs so far.

I have about 7400 miles on my '05 I picked up in September. So far it's been running great. Congrats on your new 4runner, you'll definitely love it.

If you mean, are all V8 4wd's full-time, then yes.
If you mean, are all V8 4runners 4wd, then no.

2WD models are really common in Florida....
And I'm looking really hard, but don't think I see a 4WD emblem on the side of that 4Runner.

That settles the question then. Not all v-8 4runners are 4x4's. I know the Durango R/T only came in an AWD option so when I heard that all the 4Runner with the v-8's were 4x4's, my hope soared...so thanks for busting my bubble! I thought I was putting one over on the dealer...
But seriously, thank you for clearing that up.

I own a 2006 V8 Full time 4x4 , I must admit I was VERY sceptical at first , coming from the old school and american 4x4 vehicle's.

It work's exceptionally well and has way exceeded my expectaions , and when driving on hevy snow covered road I lock the center diif. for a 50/50 split and your good to go , but because this system is so good the need to lock the center diff. does not happen all that often,but it's nice to know it's there.

Also I love the V8 , now that I'm past break in and starting to hammer this thing a little more I'm damn impressed with the quickness and torque / pull of this truck it's great IMO !!

By looking at the pic (and assuming it has not been partially debadged) it does look like a 2WD model. I don't see the 4WD badge either.

Welcome to Toyota and to the forum! The other members have answered your questions quite completely, I just wanted to throw in the fact that the Torsen Limited-Slip Center Differential (if you have the 4x4 V8) can send as much as 60 percent of the torque to the front wheels, but in dry conditions the system is rear-biased for enhanced on-road handling. When the center dif is locked torque is split 50/50.

As for the hood scoop, as others have said it is non-functional. However there is a version of 4Runner not sold in the US that has a 3.0L turbodiesel engine with a top-mounted intercooler that uses the scoop. They only reason to make it functional on the V8 is if you are sick of having a clean engine bay. The airbox for the gasoline engines are against the passenger side front fender and pull air from the wheel well.

Great choice on the model of 4Runner!! :

I like the sidesteps too, they look aftermarket as they are not OEM. Make sure you find out if it is 4x4 or not.
