I feel great about myself, thanks ! I could understand a response like the above if I was directly making a recommendation that would harm his vehicle/engine, however, I was actually recommending the complete opposite. I apologize it wasn't the answer that you found to be correct. I see you have thousands of posts and feel entitled to being a bully, but really ~ this post was unnecessary. Everyone's experiences & expectations are different. Everyone's maintenance knowledge and level is different.
I was sharing my experiences. Every new car I have owned has had quite a few metal specs in the oil & filter after 1000-1500 miles. I'd rather get all that crap out and freshen things up a bit than leave them.. Will this lengthen the life of the engine, who knows ~ all I know is that it has worked for me and my vehicles. Will changing your oil sooner rather later harm your engine at all? Likely not, atleast with today's engines. But if you are like me, and enjoy trying to learn everything you can about the vehicle you just spent $40k on, do what I do, and send your oil in for diagnostic testing. If you are in to engine diagnostics like I am, you can send your oil in on your brand new ride at that point and see exactly where everything stands.
I send engine oil in at the first oil change, then every 25,000 miles or so after that. I send transmission oil in at 50,000 miles increments. If you'd like to read up more on this subject, see below:

Lastly ~ its not a matter of doing nothing for my engine. Its a mater of being proactive. Toyota (and every vehicle manufacturer for that matter) are now manufacturing "idiot proof" engines that could very likely run 20-30-40k miles without an oil change. Is that optimal? A diagnostic test will to you. I prefer to stay alert & proactive and take care of things as a responsible vehicle owner.
Your opinions will likely be completely different, but that's the purpose of this forum and forums like it.
I decided to step out from behind the iron lurking curtain and post a response ... Perhaps I should have stayed behind that curtain with a welcome like the above post. Thank you for making me feel very welcome 1engineer
