Anybody have any experience importing? I am interested in a 2010 4runner however im a little confused on the requirements for the daytime running lights. Do the American ones need to be rewired? And if so does have to be done prior to entry into Canada? Also the RIV site is kinda vague when it comes to the 2010 4runner (is it admissible or not?) Thanks

you can import a 2010 4runner into Canada yes ..
the drl can be enabled at the dealer .no rewiring needed ...
they do not have to be done before bringing it in .. it just has to be done before your riv inspection which is a total cash cow cause all they do is basically kick the tires and send you on your way ... the whole process is quite simple .. just make sure at the broader you cross your t's and dot your i's and make sure you have all the paper done prior to arriving at the boarder ..

Yes, you can import a 2010-2012 4R to Canada and Toyota will even honour the warranty, but be careful on the warranty as there are some sticking points.

I imported a 2010 Limited, easy except for the DRL. RIV wants the switch to be inoperable, meaning that you can't turn them off. The US spec vehicles have a different light switch stalk that allows you to do this. So, I ran a wire from the ignition "on" to the fogs and left the DRL switch off, passed with fogs always on as DRL, then lost the jumper wire and use the stalk set to DRL or Auto on the Limited... now DRL are as OEM..
Don't think that the dealer can reprogram this, as the light switch stalk is completely different. RIV wants the DRL "OFF" to be completely inoperable.

And you don't need to do this prior to entry, just prior to RIV inspection..
