You're welcome. Got to thinking that no matter the direction that we head with our mods, or none at all, one of the eventualities of vehicle ownership is new tires. A fairly costly investment for most. Might as well get the best we can afford with as much research as we can stomach before we let loose of the Bejamins. Thought I'd help reduce the research time!

For sure... I was surprised that most of the top 7 aren't even tires I had considered! It was like every paragraph provides more and more considerations for performance criteria. Tall order to get to the top of THAT list!

I'm glad they posted this online. I've been telling people to buy the magazine. It's a good article with real scientific tests, rather than 'I think this one is better because . . .' Unfortunately, new tires come out often. The new BFG A/T wasn't out when they did this, but OJ gave it high marks in a recent review. They also didn't review the more aggressive AT tires (like Duratracs and ST MAXX) since it's geared toward overlanding and not hardcore rock crawling or mud. No tire meets every need precisely, but an AT is a good, all-around tire for most users (given that most of our trucks see a lot more highway miles than mud bogs or rocky trails).

No surprise about Cooper. They make the majority, if not all of the Mickey Thompson line-up.
They make a lot of the Pep Boys house brand also. If not for my buddy being a general manager for Firestone and making me a killer deal on some Destination ATs , I would have looked at Cooper next.
Surprised with the results from the BFGs. Very informative article, thanks for sharing!

This was a good article, somewhat lackluster on the tire choices. Some of the choices led to poor performance of particular manufacturer. Non the less Cooper was the top choice, and no argument there, Cooper over the past 5 years has really stepped up there production and quality, they have come to be one of the best in warranties by not having to comp even a small percent of production. The BFG is just a mainstay, they have been around sinse the time of willys and then some. Where I do have a problem is with Goodyear and the choice of reviewing the adventure line. Having worked for goodyear in distribution I have a feeling that these tires will fall to the likings of the fortura design. Clearly the Duratracs should have been chosen, a tire with considerably more market time and a pedigree of all around any season, any condition tire. If it came between the duratracs and the at/3 it would still probably be the cooper winning over on price.

It would have also been meaningful to put the new tires against the mainstays.
