In what year did they start to have the back window roll down?

i figured out 2 days ago that if you hold the key to the left in the rear tailgate the window goes down, and if u hold it to the right it goes up

^ lol, you can add that one to the list along with the center console, and the headrest holders in the rear seats.

unfortunatly this is my only clever feature (97). i was pissed when the window started to roll down cause then i'm like dammit now i have to go back in the car and roll it back up. then i had the idea to turn the key the other way. IT worked

I'm a goob and I was reading the owners manual one day.
I shit a brick and ran to try it, i was ecstatic.
i felt like that VW Jetta commercial where the dude does exactly that but with all the windows.

It is a nice feature to have. One of the perks of having a 4Runner.
Here are a few things about it that are not so cool.
1.) If you have a remote, you can open but you cannot close the window with the remote.
2.) The window rolls down on it's own, this happened to my 4th gen. only, not sure why that happened, probably hit the button on the key while at work.
3.) You try the rear window wiper and it does not work. The rear window is closed, but there is about 1/8 of a inch to go and the wiper thinks the window is open. So, if your wiper does not work, hit the up button for a second.
4.) Last week, I took a lawn mower to my parents, there was a little gas smell, so I cracked the rear window. When I got home, I forgot about it and it rained and I got the rear end of the trunk wet.
Other than that, it is a great idea. Especially when you go to Home Depot.

Auto up is the same as the sunroofs not closing all the way and is a safety feature since in auto mode somebody might not notice little fingers being pinched or if the dog has his head out of the back window and yes these things do occur and leaving it manual forces people to pay attention and can't sue Toyota for their stupidity.

the car companies should clearly state WATCH YOURS HAND WHILE USING AUTO UP. id much rather close my finger in once and have auto up for the life of the vehicle. it is the drivers fault not the car companies
Wait, so all model year 4Runners have the power rear window feature? I've been looking at upgrading my 2001 to something newer and have been trying to confirm which years have or don't have that feature. Is that for sure? Thanks!

one more " good to know" thing
if you lock the windows.........with the button in the drivers door. It locks the rear windows AND the tail gate window. While that does make sense, that function got activated by mistake, and when I tried to use the button in the center console to open the window.........it would not open----- I thought I blew a fuse or it was broken.........until an 8 year old son quacked out to unlock the windows ! Blahhahhah
