Infinity Reference or Kappa speakers

Would you suggest Infinity Reference or Infinity Kappa speakers for my 4R? Kappa is a better speaker but is it worth the extra $50? Thanks

reference are ok...i have them in my corolla. i recommend kappas because they sound so much better in my uncle's M3.

From what I've heard, Kappas are quite power hungry though. If you plan on running an amplifier with them, they'd be great. If not, the references will suit you fine. But it also depends on what deck you have, if you're running a high power output deck already. Kappas would still be best with an external amp..

I am running an alpine CD-9820XM head unit
RMs power output 18 watts, peak output 50 watts
I have no clue how that compairs to a small amp.

It would be best to still run another amp for Kappas. You might be able to get away with it if you had a higher power deck, like Alpine's 9835.. You could still get them if you want, but they'd run best with another amp..

I'd go with the reference speakers if you are just going to run them off of your deck.

Kappas would sound best with an amp.

I had an Alpine 9805 running 6 1/2 Infinity Reference speakers in the front and 4 inch references in the back and they sounded good.

I would more than likley use an alpine amp.

It would be best if each speaker received its own channel. So a 4 channel would suit you best. The reason for this is because each side in wiring gets its own. A seperate signal is run to the front left, one to the front right, one to the rear left, and one to the rear right. With components, you'd run the signal from the deck, to the amp, and from the amp to the crossover, which will then run the signal to the tweeters and the mids.

If you're planning on an alpine amp, these should suit your needs. The first one is a bit pricier than the second..

There are other amps out there though. But it depends on your budget. Also, dependent on your budget would be if you want to go with Kappas and an amp or References.

As far as passenger seat fit, that is dependent. It would be best if test-fitted.

Kappas vs Reference

Hi all. New to the forum and 4runners (since tuesday) but not to car audio.

The previous assumptions were correct: go with the Reference speakers if you are NOT running them off of an external amp, otherwise, 1) you will lose some midbass response with the Kappas running directly off of your HU, and 2) you will be wasting your money on the Kappas, because you won't be using them to the best of their potential.

I believe also that the References have more cone surface area by a small amount which jives with their higher sensitivity level - gives you more midbass with lower wattages pushing them.

Good choice on the Infinity line though: QUALITY product and GREAT customer service/warranty coverage/followup after the sale.
