Inner fender trimming to fit 285s - question

Does anyone know exactly what the black plastic 'bumps' are that stick out below the bumper are for? I need to do some trimming so that the 285s I just installed don't rub, and I'm wondering if these entire pcs should just be removed?

I've seen some pis of how others have trimmed, and the bumps are gone completely... I'm wondering if they were there originally though (maybe they are only on some year models).

Anyhow, what was the original purpose of these things?

I'll try to take some pictures tonight and post up so that it's easier to tell what I'm talking about.

i have rubbing too, but i dont want to go trimming and cutting away at the inside. i removed the mudflaps and moved the fender up further but i still get some rubbing. ive just dealt with it to be honest.

on a side note, not to take over your thread, i live in CO but when i was in CA last week the tires seemed to rub a lot more, does elevation affect this?

If it did, it'd be the other way - higher air pressure at lower altitudes makes your tires slightly smaller at the same psi. I doubt it's detectable.

How did you go about moving the fender forward?

i removed the screws from the bottom, i believe 3 on drivers side 4 on passenger. then just pushed it forward and made new holes to put the screws in.

Sweet. I started looking at it this weekend and was hoping it was going to be as easy as you just mentioned. Hopefully I'll knock that out this week and be done with it.
