Inspired by others, 3M matte black TE hood

Finally got around to doing this and I love the look. Did this myself, the material is very forgiving but lots of patience is required. almost 2.5 hrs on hood and 1 hr on hood scoop. First time working with vinyl.

O I also have clear bra on the front side bumper but close up it sucks, very difficult to do! But you can't tell from a distance.

Well done. I keep waffling between the clear and the matte black.. the clear matte doesn't come in a sheet wide enough to do the whole hood in one piece, leaving the black as the only one-shot option. Yours looks awesome, I'm just not sure it would look good on blue.

It might! the Matte black matches the truck's trims and bumper really well so it should go well. It cost about $100

I got it from stickercity.com they have a clearbra from Ventura Shield that would fit the whole hood, 60" by 60" = $169.75 plus shipping

I always had this in the back of my mind as a "must-do", but when we went shopping for our 4runner, I decided on the Blizzard Pearl. I'm not too sure matte black would look too good, or even matte white for that matter.

Does anyone know of any pics of a BP Runner with a matte hood? If so it'd be nice to get some feedback.

After I finish my runner with all the mods I am planning for it, I'll start contemplating a full body matte black or matte white w/ all of the chrome matte blacked. It'll take many many foot rubs for the wife to be on board with that though. :lol:

Separately, 4 screws and pop off 3 pins. This part was a little tricky but plenty of stretching and shrinking will help a bunch

That looks great dude! Excellent way to keep the glare down and keep it protected. I'd love to do this I just know after I did the hood I'd have to do the whole thing!

I did a bunch of research before buying and it says it holds up for up to 4 years, but I've read from other forums that it holds up with well for 3 years then pulling it off is more of a pain. Probably depends on how much sun exposure it gets.

I had my friend help, it's impossible to do alone with the sheet that large. The material is very forgiving, you can wrinkle it up into a ball and apply heat to undo it all looking flawless. I watched a bunch of youtube videos on all the tricks and tips. Getting air bubbles out, wrinkles, stretching/shrinking, etc. Don't stretch too much, heat it then let it cool and give it a go.

I also didn't pull off the entire back, I pulled it off at about 20% at a time.

I wrapped the vinyl under the hood about half an inch - an inch. For the hood scoop I did a very close cut. All the cuts I pulled the vinyl away from the hood or paint while cutting.

One more thing, for those who are considering doing this, I picked up a 60" x 6' feet sheet. I felt like 60" x 5' was cutting it too close. Might be possible but wasn't worth it for me.

With the 60" x 6' I had plenty of extra and I used that for the hood scoop. I still have a bit more to play with and try on other areas
