Installed: Headrest Mounted Pet Barrier for 5th Gen

I was looking for a pet barrier for my new 5th gen to keep the dog from running all over my new seats. Initially, I installed this pet barrier... but it was not stable, and appeared to be messing up my headliner (NOT ok).

After a lot of searching, I found a headrest mounted pet barrier that appears to be very stable and work perfectly. You can get it at Orvis, but I ordered it from here and used a coupon for free shipping to get it for $59 out the door.

Hope this helps some of you with the same situation!

Probably a little late now, but a webbing strap with swivel snap hooks on each end (think gym bag shoulder strap) attached to the floor D-rings will do the same job and is quickly portable between vehicles, if you have the need. Got a custom length strap and hooks from Strapworks for less than $15. Just another way to skin that cat.

i've got the same one! and now that i finally have my runner i will install it and post pics as well! i also recommend the Ultimate Pet Liner. i don't have it yet but it looks like a interior saver from damage!

what are you talking about for 300 usd? if you're referring to the Ultimate Pet Liner, wait until I get mine and post some better pics before you form a final opinion on it. I think you might change your mind.

This product is apparently supposed to fit like a glove and protects the side plastic panels, cargo floor, and back of 2nd row seats. If you have dogs, especially ones with rapidly growing claws and ones that shed like nobody's business, then this would be a godsend. (I have two of these beasts but I love them like my own kids)

This is just my initial impression from what I have read and learned about the product. I am still awaiting my set and will report back with pics in my build / mod thread.

BTW, for those of you with dogs, lookout for updates to my mods page bc I will be dog-proofing my Runner to keep it as pristine as possible (unlike my last vehicle which was a disaster due to all the claw/nail scratch marks and dog hair stuck to the carpetting).

i have a $10 moving mat that i put a few grommets in and use metal clips to hold it, covers all the plastic and the seat backs

I have the barrier that you have in your first link, that is unstable. I find that the plastic piece that separates the cargo area gets in the way of the legs of the barrier. Mine has fallen over a few times after I tighten it as much as possible. Maybe I'll give that new one a try.

Has anyone actually rigged up anything? I tried getting some rivets with a moving blanket but found none big enough for the actual side rear headrests just the center. I put em into center and tossed that headrest on since it has smaller rails.

Just a temporary fix. I plan on taking my mutts up to big bear tomorrow for what little snow there is left, but the pet barrier doesnt come till monday

I pulled out the stock carpet and Herculined the tray and floor. I found some heavy duty outdoor carpet and put it down so the dogs don't go flying when I take a turn. Still not sure how to protect the sides.
The first pic is just the dogs. I got a the headrest mounted barrier talked about above.

I didn't. I know you are supposed to but the paint underneath the carpet was a little rougher than I expected. I just made sure it was clean and put two good coats on the area underneath the tray. Hi, long time lurker, first time poster...

I just recieved this Walky Pet Barrier and I am having trouble getting it to fit on my 2011 Limited. The rear headrest only go up one click and that is not enough room to get over the seat belt strap. In other pics I see others have their headrest up a lot higher. Is there something wrong that I can only adjust my headrest up one click? Theres plenty of bar left on them but no more notches.

Search my post and you'll see the Line-X job I did in my 4Runner. Looks very professional and was only about $50 more then DIY kits.

Can you post a picture of what you did? I'm concerned about messing up my headliner and most barriers press into the headliner at the top
