Installed New Spark Plugs, Engine Is Choking

Hey everyone,

I just installed 6 Denso spark plugs (K20HR-U11). I have the V6. I used anti-seize. I made sure that the spark plugs were gapped between .40 and .43. I also torqued it to 15 ft/lbs.

I installed 3 of them on the left side with the air filter.

I reinstalled the air filter.

I had to switch parking spots with my wife, so I turned my car on. I was able to move the car with no problems at all.

I continued to work on the other side. I removed the bracket first, then the vent hose, and then the VSV connector.

I installed the last 3 plugs, making sure that I torqued it to 15 ft/lbs.

I plugged everything that I took out back in, put the bracket back on, and put the engine cover back on.

When I started the car, it sounded like my car was choking/sputtering. The RPM's would go up to 1750, eventually settling around 1250-1500. About a minute or two later, it sounds fine. I felt a rumble on occasion.

When I put in on drive to put it back into the garage, that's where the problem began. It struggled to move, choking/sputtering and rumbling.

Did I forget to put something back on? Did I put something back on where it shouldn't be? Is it the plugs? Did I put too much anti-seize?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to take a look at it first thing in the morning.

Ignition wire on the wrong plug?
Overtorqued, cracked head? They just need to be snug..hand tight then 1/4 turn
PCV or an intake hose unplugged?

I'm far from an ASE certified tech but one of these may be the culprit. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will chime in real soon

also try resetting the ECU. Unhook your ground wire from your battery for a minute

yup..try reseting the ecu...dis connecting ur battery for minimum of 15mins..then start the car n let it idle for 5mins..b4 taking it for a test drive.it needs to relearn ur driving pattern...dont stomp the gas pedal while doing this

U dont have to disconnect the battery cable, in the fuse box, ull see a white fuse, its only a jumper, just unplug that, then open door and turn like the lights on then off to fully discharge the electricals.

Definately check for any disconnected vacuum hoses. They'll make those symptoms.

Maybe one of the plugs got hit installing the plug and the plug got out of gap. Wouldn't be the first time it ever happened. You don't think it would be a problem...but it could happen.

I found out what the issue was. I forgot to plug the hose next to the bracket.

I also reset the ecu based on the majority of the recommendations. Thanks!

It happens. Glad to see it was an easy fix. :reddance:

This happened to me i had a misfire on cylinder 5 and 6 I had it towed to the dealer and they found cracks in the new Denso plugs but if you take the plugs out re-check the gapping
