Installed OEM homelink visor

So, the other day I picked up a pair of 01-02 Limited visors off EBay. They have extensions, which are useful, but mainly they have the homelink transmitter built in.

Install was pretty easy. Pulled the overhead console,

and found switched 12V in the sunroof/light harness plug. For reference it's the blue with red stripe wire.

Used a coat hanger to snake wires under the headliner from the visor mount to the console area,

Quick tap for 12V and a ring for ground,

Installed the visor, and we have power

I installed the passenger side visor as well, because it has the extension that mine doesn't have. Didn't bother powering it though. Got the homelink unit programmed to my openers and all is good.

OMG thats amazing . I had no idea that was an option!

I spent a while trying to find a visor with homeland + temp sensor and it was just more than I wanted to spend. Very cool to see that I have another option for visors extension and homelink.

I just got the simple mirror with temp and compass.

Ouch looks like eBay wants to much for those also. $50 for just the passenger.

Yeah, they weren't cheap. And no longer available from Toyota. Worth it for me for the convenience, and the safety factor. My truck sits outside, so if anyone were to break into it, they would also have access to my garage through the opener inside the truck. Now, with switched power, the homelink opener won't work without the keys.

So you cut the plug off the end of the visor and extended the wires? I just picked one up and getting ready to install.

I didn't find an existing power harness to plug the visor into. Of course I didn't look all that hard for it either. Didn't pull the headliner. And yes, just cut the plug off the visor, soldered and shrink wrapped extensions to run to the overhead console.

does your truck not have an existing power source for the visors?

In my 2000 Limited there was no power plug on the driver's side. I ended up buying the passenger side plug from DeathCougar on one of his part outs. I wired mine up to be switched with the accessory so you have to have a key to activate the Homelink. By far one of the most used mods in my truck, so happy I did it.

Nice mod. I'll have to check the local used yards for these visors.

I did this in my sons 01. FYI, if you have a newer garage door opener, you will need a homelink from a 2010 or newer vehicle.. I originally used one from a 02 that did not work with my garage door. I also made it hot only when key is on since vehicle sits outside. I have since painted it to match the interior.
