sorry for the noob question, but is it possible to install a new car stereo cd player for a '97 4runner?

97 Limited

I have a 97 Limited and was thinking about replacing my factory stero/cd player. The size of factory stero is larger than the aftermarket product, ie. the height. Is there a place where I can purchase a compartment component like the one I see in the pictures to fill in the space after removing OEM stereo?

Re: 97 Limited

Buy yourself a double din deck or get a Scion HU .

I put one a these in my 98 and it sure is a nice deck ,lots of features ,usb , sat radio ready , 2 sets pre outs plus sub pre outs .

I would NOT install a Scion HU in my 4runner. Even though an aftermarket HU is a little more expensive, it is well worth it. They offer many many more features.

I would suggest checking out Crutchfield.com. They offer free shiping, they give you that insert, that you need for the right height, for free, they give you a free wiring harness, and their customer service is great. I would highly suggest them.

What are you looking for out of your new HU and what is your price range?

Edit: Don't buy from Circuit City or Best Buy, PLEASE! Most of the time they have NO idea what they are talking about. They might even mess up the install of car audio products.

the circuit city i went to back when i had my old car actually did a great job with everything. the clerk was actually honest about the stuff and for the money what was good and what cheap stuff was decent and what not.

then again i'm sure it is one of those things where every store is different.

For sure.

I might go to Circuit City or Best Buy to try out a HU, but I would not buy it from or have it installed by them.

Thank you for the information! Double Din Deck!
I was hoping to replace OEM with a single din deck and get extra storage space.

JVCXG700 looks pretty nice, it has more features than I need. If I decide to go this route, it's the deck for me. Did you keep the stock speakers? thanks again.

The JVC is a excellent deck man . I replaced the speakers with a set of Polk Audio 6501 components . Added a huge Sony amp to drive them all and it sounds freakin awesome ! I have a 12' Sony sub with a dedicated Alpine amp for it . Rocks pretty decent .
