Have after market radio that was professionally installed and currently upgrading that unit myself. Had been getting poor radio reception and reading forum about that issue and noticed the professionals had only hooked up one of the glass enclosed antennas. Ordered the adapters which should be in today. I have hooked up the new wiring harness awaiting delivery of the Y adapter. Problem I'm having is the one wire left from the original harness. It is yellow with a black stripe and unmarked. Is this the wire going to the antenna amp I have read about on this forum? I have one power source left on the new unit and wondering should I hook it up to this remaining yellow wire with black stripe. Don't want to hook it up as a "guess" and short something out. The professional installers had left it loose, but it's obvious they did not do a proper install. Is it the lead for the antenna amp? If not, what did it originally go to? I have a 2005 SR5 that only had the basic radio/CD/cassette. Have looked at wiring diagrams, but none has mentioned that yellow wire with black stripe. Your assistance is appreciated.

need to specify if this truck is jbl or not.
non jbl system have different wires.

There's usually a switched +12 volt wire off the head unit, used for auxiliary devices. You'll need to google the wiring for your head unit for specifics.
(and yes it is usually a particular color , but I've seen them off standard so you have to look yours up)

what radio are you swapping out? kenwood, pioneer, alpine?
i would just use the red acc wire in the radio harness to power up the antenna only. so do not hook up any blue wire, unless you use it to turn on amp and parking brake bypass. blue is not needed on the metra/scosche harness if you find this one black wire with a white plug, cut the plug off and wire it up to the red acc in the aftermarket radio harness.

I made the same mistake when I installed my Kenwood unit. Had really crappy radio reception so just gave Crutchfield where I bought it a call. They walked me through the proper wire to hook up and have had excellent reception since. It had been a while so I can't remember which wire it was. I never bothered with the Y adapter for the diversity antenna and have had no problems at all...
