Installing aftermarket speakers in 4runner

So I just ordered a new deck fro my 1998 4runner and now Im looking in to replacing the stock speakers. I found speakers for the front door that will fit they are Kicker 40CS654 and i want to get the same ones for the rear doors they are Kicker 40CS54 and Im not sure if these will fit any help? Crutchfield said that Ill need to fabricate a speaker mounting bracket or space for it to fit. Thanks guys!

I dont have the dimensions handy, but I have infinity kappa speakers all around. The fronts fit just fine with the included adapter ring (not a spacer, just to align the screw pattern), but on the back I had to use MDF to make my own adapters.

If there are any crossovers, just be warned that they are a pain to mount in these doors, as there is not much space available within the door panel. I literally just remounted all my speakers last night after doing some door sound deadening and new wiring for an amp, and its a tight squeeze.

Both 6-1/2 and 6-3/4 will fit in the front. The rears might need a little work, but 5-1/4 speakers will fit. Do a search and you'll find all the information you need.
 
I put kappa 6.5" components in the front with no adapters. 5.25" alpine type s in the rear, made some .25" in adapters and my windows roll down all the way.
 
In the front doors the window tracks run directly down the middle of the speaker cutout, with the stock speaker plates the deepest speaker you can use is 2.5" pretty much exactly, you can space it out around 1/4", but I know for sure running 2.9" deep speakers your door panel will not fit anymore.

Rear I have no clue about, not running any rear fill speakers.

EDIT: now that I think about it, I know the rear uses a stock speaker with 3 mounting points, every 4" speaker I've seen uses 4, so stock plates do not fit aftermarket speakers without modification.
 
If I remember correctly the rear speakers have a plastic piece that surrounds them, I cut the "horns" off of them and used them as spacers for my rear speakers
 
6 1/2" in the front, and 5 1/4" in the rear.
Fronts are a component system (Speaker & tweeter)
Rears are speakers

FYI, some speakers are deeper than others, and require some modifications, due to the risk of hitting the windows when rolled down.

Sometimes retrofitting is needed. Use wood to create a mounting bracket for the speaker, as it is easily pliable, but durable as well.

Sorry I dont know the part number but I found them easily on Amazon when I was looking. Yes 4 total (one for each speaker) They are plug and play, so easy and best way to keep your factory harness in tact without cutting and so forth. And they sounds great, no complaints.

I did a write up on this a few years back but all the picture links no longer work. You need these speaker adapters for the rear. I used them and my back windows still hit a bit. I never fixed it, I just never roll the back windows down all the way.

I just ordered some 6.75 Kickers for the front and 5.25" for the rear and those speaker adapters for thr rear.

Any tips on the install?

I plan to cut and solder on the connectors.
 
I have the kickers in my truck too, came with it. But I was going to suggest Crutchfield, they will tell you what speakers need modifications and what dont and alot of times give you what you need to install.

The fronts are pretty straight forward and you just reuse the factory mount.

As for the back, make sure to check the window clearance when rolled down after you put the new ones in. I didn't realize until a few months later that when my back windows are rolled all the way down they still hit my speakers. It popped my window off the track. I never bothered to fix it as it is no longer my DD and my kids know how far they can roll the backs down before it hits.

Use silicone glue to seal the speakers into the brackets.

This will help for the rears. With a flat bracket, you wont be able to roll your rear windows all the way down!
