Installing OME lift soon, few questions

Bought the 4Runner about 3 weeks ago, and magically a used OME lift popped up on CL 2 days later with 883/891 springs, and scored it for $300. It was claimed to have 20,000 miles on it so hopefully the front OME shocks are still good. He only had one rear shock for me but I ordered the medium duty rear shocks and diff drop tonight so they should be here sometime next week and I will be installing probably the following week.

1. Do I need extended brake lines, this truck will be wheeled all over Colorado so the suspension will be flexing and fully utilized.

2. The guy that sold it to me said there was an A side and a B side spring in the rear but he didn't remember which one went on which side. How do I identify which is which and what side does each one go on?

3. My truck is on stock 16" wheels with 265 75 15 tires for now but I want to move to 285's. Should I even attempt this with the stock wheels or should I start looking for something with 3.75" backspace?

Thanks for the help, search overwhelmed be a bit :noidea:

So you got the ome shocks? Hope everything isnt worn out and the numbers are real.

I would Install and slowly flex and just seem how your doing, I didnt need to extend anything with my 890.

I dont think there really is a difference between the coils. a or b

I bought the diff drop but never installed it since my cv are newish and haven't shown any problems. I cant remember but i think Im at like 2" lift.

stock upper control arms cant get my caster (wheel alignment)in spec but its close enough.

The numbers are right on the springs and the front shocks are OME, I referenced all the numbers with TOYTEC's website so I assume they're the right stuff, plus the guy showed up with a brand new TOYTEC boss lift on his 3rd gen, he said he just wanted to go bigger so took off the OME lift. If the shocks are bad I'll replace them, overall still a good deal when it comes right down to it. I'll try it without extending things and flex it out to see how things look.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

With the rear springs (the 2906s anyhow) one is taller than the other. The taller one goes on the gas tank side to compensate for the weight. Put them the wrong way and you will see a lean.

Stand them side by side and see if one is taller...

One was noticeably taller and that's kind of what I thought, needed a double check. My FJ60 lift was the same way. Thanks KANOE.

One is taller for sure so do the floor check side by side, easy enough.

Im sure what you got are actual OME springs as you dont hear or see of anyone ripping people off with some knock off shit. So dont scare the guy, hes lifting his 4runner not like he forgot to pull out :)

Depending on the width of the 285's your looking at you might want to consider wheels with more backspacing than stock as they tend to rub the UCA's. Without the lift you might rub the front bumper if stock on turns, heavy down travel. I fit some on my stock 4runner before lifting, not the best idea but it works for pavement pounding and the time being.

No aftermarket bumper yet, I work in a welding shop but we do mostly hand rail so I'm deciding if I want to mess with making a winch bumper, or just buy one from Addicted Offroad locally. We'll see. Thanks for the tip though, that's why I wasn't too bummed they were the heavy springs.

Thanks for all the help everyone, after some thought I think I may just go with spidertrax wheel spacers after a suggestion in the toytec lift thread.

Also forgot, do I need to do anything with the sway bars? On the few vehicles I've lifted over the years I generally just ditch them altogether.

From what if seen on the forum most choose to ditch the sway bars with the stiff springs. I believe you can move the front end links to the rear to make up the length problem if you decide to keep them. Would you also be installing a pan hard drop, to get the reared centered again? Also, Mstudt makes some impressive quick connects if you so choose.

How bout posting a pic once you've installed said lift. I'm piecing my lift together and so far have the 891 with 5100 bilsteins and tundra struts. Just need front springs which I'm still debating on yy/yb or 883

The panhard drop bracket is in the plans, since I work in a welding shop I'll probably just make one. I already got my "before" pic today in a flat parking lot and will be able to re-create the exact pic after the lift goes on. I'm installing it monday and going for alignment tuesday...

Sorry for not exact before and afters, I got the before pic but I want to do an after pic in the exact parking spot from the exact distance with the exact same camera.

So OME heavy springs front and rear with OME shocks front and rear, Spidertrax hub centric 1.25" spacers, stock 16x7 wheels, and 285 75 r16 BFG All Terrain KO2 tires. BTW, I'm not sure how you guys fit that size tire on there. Discount Tire didn't want to install my wheel spacers so I ended up installing them in a parking lot nearby and coming back lol. I thought they could fit, then when I got home I could install the spacers before I went for any real offroad driving. Sitting flat on the ground with the full weight of the truck the tires hit the UCA's unless sitting almost perfectly straight, so I couldnt have even driven it home. Then, they only had two of my tires in stock even though I called them and paid them over the phone yesterday, so a guy had to drive to another store to get the other two.

Long story short, I can already tell some things are going to need to but cut, removed and persuaded before everything will be smooth, might even need a 1" body lift. I'll be doing some flex testing tomorrow. Anyways, thanks for the advice and here are a couple pics.

I, too, have a bead on a set of OME 891s but I have a different issue:

I picked up a manual 99 4wd Sr5 in amazing shape last month. The previous owner had already installed 2" spacers all around and sits on 31" tires. I want a slightly higher lift in the back for the raked look. I live in SoFla so occasional muddy trail hooning is as technical as this truck will ever get.

Anyway, can I use those 891s with the existing 2" spacers to get that tail-up rake I'm looking for, and just leave the front spacers situation alone?

wow, I just bought a 99 4runner 3 weeks ago and it is identical to yours. I too want to install an ome lift. I only want to run 265 75's on it though. want to keep the tire weight down. it looks really good with the lift and looks like it sits really level. did you buy new shocks for it? how does it ride.

Doctordel99 I am not an expert on this generation of 4Runner by any means (had 6 1st gens and 2 second gens though lol). I think if you put the heavy springs on and have 2" spacers on in the front you will get the rake you are looking for. I have it set up with the heavy front springs and OME shocks and still have a good rake as you can see. I would do the rear springs without the spacers first if you decide to try it.

highcj5 I kept the used shocks in the front and bought medium shocks for the rear. It rides VERY nice. It also flexes really well (for IFS), too well in fact so I will need a body lift AND trimming for sure. It rubs the firewall hard (while wheeling some rough stuff, not street driving). It might be ok if I didn't remove the sway bars though.

Doing the pinch weld stuff this coming weekend and ordering the body lift tomorrow. I'm trying to get this thing MOAB ready by October and I'm cutting it close fast!

Thanks, Gadget.

I come from the Jeep world so this 4Runner is a fun learning experience for me. I have ordered the toyatec superflex springs and the longer 5100 shocks. As soon as they arrive I'll install and post pics.

I'm running stock wheels with 285s and 1.25" wheel spacers and it rubs the running board when turning and hitting a bump at the same time and then when I'm flex out in the rear they rub the upper wheel well like no other haha

1. 3" and over of lift yes.
2. ask mechanic Phil @ Smooth Ride
3. I have 285s on stock 16s. No spacers, no rubbing

How the hell do you pull that off with the tires? I put 285 75 16's on my stock wheels and they rub like insanity. I'm wondering if a 2" body lift will clear it up. The tires hit the rear bumper like no tomorrow which I know is trimmable, but in the front doing the pinch weld mod won't help, they are trying to remove the front fenders. I think a lot of this has to do with me taking both of the sway bars off completely. She flexes nice though! The taller spring (not sure which is A or B) goes on the gas tank side, which is also where my fat butt sits so that makes sense.

Upon further inspection, a tad part hits when I crank the wheels right.
