Installed pics and a sound clip of the headers with 2 cats deleted, custom y and magnaflow exhaust entering a tunnel.

On the driver side, notice how close the headers are to the steering column? I've developed a rattle after the installation of my DT's, and I suspect at a stop, with idle, the headers are touching my steering column. I am running a 1 inch body lift which might make the steering column too close, but curious if any one else has noticed a rattle after install?

Yeah I just saw the post. I'll probably be using the same shop when I get the time to drop mine off. How long did they take to do it all?

Overall they had the truck from monday until today, but I dont think Scott was able to start on it right away. The bill was about 14 hours labor and its stuck on the lift pretty much the entire time, so it definitely turns into a project if anything breaks or he doesnt have all the parts ready to go.

Yep. Mine is definitely touching. Plus the guys that I installed it ground the bolt head to help with clearance, but now I am not sure I could remove it. Need to try to figure out how to deal with it. I hate to say it, but maybe a slight dent in the header itself would help...

A dent is an option, I've heard one or two others that suggested that. I don't think I'll be going that route...yet. Still too shiny to take a hammer to.

I've had these on my truck for maybe 15k miles. I'm glad I got these just to get rid of that tick tick tick, the engine does seem to operate smoother...I just wish there were more substantial power gains that came along with that. Definitely more of a maintenance item for my truck then a power enhancer.

Once I get my truck tuned maybe there will be some incentive for other shops in different areas of the country to start offering this. No idea how much I will make to be able to make it worth it but im way too curious to find out.

I haven't been able to find a shop willing to tackle the install. One guy was ready to go but was moving to a new shop, then ended up not reopening. Another shop agreed to do it but he works more with high HP tuner cars and I think just didn't feel like working on an SUV. Most places just don't want to work on a northeast truck with such limited space and a job they've never done before, or they say it 'should' be around $800 but IF something goes wrong it could be much more.

Can anyone recommend Long Island shop, preferably Suffolk, that you HAVE HAD this installation done?

Otherwise I'm ready to put mine in the for sale thread. (New in box with 16 toyota studs and nuts, if I go that route...)

Hey man,
Try Carms auto repair up the street from the Ronkonkoma train station, I highly doubt he has done this specific install, but hes a really nice guy, very knowledgeable and is a truck enthusiast in general. Other then myself, probably the only guy I would go to, to do stuff on my truck.

I have the interference issue, notice it when making slow speed turns but probably does it all the time, I just do not notice it. I have the stock suspension, no lift. Is there a specific way to mount the steering coupling to avoid contacting the header?

Not that I know of. It's the bolt on the steering coupling that rubs. The only thing I could think of is building a custom steering column.

Steering rubbing

Just had my DT headers installed. Guys at the shop didn't have fun doing it either. I removed the original manifold myself and ended up paying $900 Canadian. Cash deal for 12 hours labour and $40 in parts.

The steering knuckle however is rubbing on the header!!!;(:(

Everything else in my truck is stock. Anybody solve this problem? I'm tempted to dent the header so it stops rubbing. It only rubs when the steering wheel is between 11 and 1. It's not the bolt that it's rubbing on. It's kind of the lip of the widest part.

That's a good deal and someone will grab that I bet...

Here's order links again.

Doug Thorley 03-04 headers

Doug Thorley 05-09 headers

Also, the Gibson catback, which pairs great with these headers, and new side DUAL is out.

Gibson 4th Gen exhaust

I can do any and all DT headers at a deal, not just these, just call or text 717-319-2100 for anymore questions.

Do you have any video clips of outside and/or inside noise with the DT headers and Gibson exhaust? I can find DT header clips and Gibson exhaust clips on youtube, but can't find videos with both paired together.

Main concern I have is I don't want it to be too loud, and definitely don't want an in-cabin drone at highway speeds.

Not to worry at at. The headers make everything QUIETER. They Gibson is already quiet, no drone, just a nice deep sound, but will be quieter with the headers and will give double the power.

What year is your truck? Mine doesn't rub at all (vvti V8). I'd contact Doug Thorley.
