Interest in East Coast Lift Party?

Just seeing if there were some owners in the MD/PA/DC/VA area that would want to get together and install some lifts in the near future. I just ordered taller front and rear springs (already have OME shocks installed) so I'd need to swap those out, plus I'm grabbing a panhard drop setup.

I don't own a T4R yet, but hopefully will find one by the time this gets planned. If I don't have a truck by then, I'd still be willing to come out and lend a hand. I can't offer a place to host as I live in an apartment complex.

I'm in North Central NJ, just off I-287, about 35 miles due west of Times Square. I have my own asphalt parking area (surrounded by a low stone wall that is great for tools and parts, good for six or seven trucks in all, plus two garage bays, 5hp 25 gal 90psi compressor for air, and a fair assortment of tools that I would not like to lose. No way to lift anything except jacks and ramps. I don't plan to lift from my '99 stock 'talls' but I could host, provide fridge space for beer, and help out. I wrench pretty good, but I don't know much about lifts and I figure I'd learn something by hosting and meet some interesting folk.

I don't know if this would meet the needs but it's what I have. It's about 4.5 hours from McLean, however. It's 2 hours exactly from the Delaware Memorial Bridge if the Turnpike is moving normally.

That sounds awesome! I have some experience installing shocks, struts, on cars and Jeeps, but I haven't wrenched on a 4runner yet. I am pretty close to you too. You wanna help me with my lift when the parts get here? I'll buy you beer/beverage of choice and lunch...

Sure. We can have a Northern edition even if it's just the two of us. Hopefully some others will join in. I have done all 4 shocks/struts on mine although I did not lift it. The guy I had compress and change over the front springs locally was really expensive. We would need to find somebody else if you need that done. If you have pre-assembled struts then that is not an issue. I tried but could not do it with the screw-type compressor, it ended up warped (the compressor, not the spring).

Oh. I meant due WEST of Times Square. The Square is East of me. DUH! But I guess you figured that out.

I was going to rent a spring compressor and do it myself. I've disassembled struts on an M3, Gti, and Camaro. I know the spring rates are probably a bit higher on the 4Runner but I'll give it a go.

There are lots of threads on this. Plenty of guys have done it renting them. Quite a few others gave up or could not get it done. I'm encouraging you to try--just cause I failed doesn't mean I think it can't be done.

I just put my spacers on my front a few weeks ago, and I had a buddy of mine who's a professional mechanic do it for me, (I got to help ). He used a pretty damn large spring compressing machine he rolled out of the back room to disassemble the coil assembly, and I gotta tell ya, even then the whole ordeal was pretty shady. Even he (the aforementioned 40 year vet mechanic) said that compressing coils is always a shady deal, he's seen to many fly across shops. Not to say you couldn't do it in a shadetree garage, many people do, but imo i'd rather take them to someone and have them do it in as a controlled environment as possible.

Don't know how a T4R's springs compare to other vehicles, but from what I saw they carry one hell of a load when under pressure.

Local midas charged me 20 dollars to dissemble my old shocks and install my old springs on new shocks. I have done springs on cars, but I did not want to mess with the Tundra coils.

Incredibly nice of you man. Sounds like you have a great work space. I wouldn't mind the trip up there if there's any interest in getting a few more people together to work on the trucks. Or even if you only get one or two more people interested, I'd still be down, and although I'm not currently employed (except college), I'd be happy to bring some cold ones and compensate whoever was able to do work on my truck with some cash within reason. I have a little wrenching experience working on tractors and ATV's with my uncle, but when it comes to these trucks I have no idea where to even begin. Probably because I don't have access to my own tools really. Subscribed to this to see if more interest comes in.

I'd definitely be able to make it there! I don't need to lift my truck, but I'm always up for helping you guys out! I'll bring some tools and whatnot, I've got a few things to make it go easier.
We'll need a spring compressor- anyone can rent one from Advance or Autozone but make sure it's one like this:
