Interior dash trim kits

This is my first Toyota, my first post as well. I'm looking forward to sharing and learning with you all. I have a 2000 4runner SR5 4x4, the interior dash trim kit is peeling away and is not in great shape. I'm not familiar with interior dash trim kits. Does anyone here recommend any particular kit? Also, how do I remove the old fake wood kit that's on there right now without damaging anything? If any of you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. In addition, if you can upload some pics of your dash kits with the name of the make or model and cost, that would help a lot too, as I may like a particular look and would like to irder it for my car. My 4runner has a dark green exterior and tan cloth...if that helps any. Thanks in advance!

More than likely your best bet is to fine a black trim kit on a junk yard truck and change everything out one for one, it sounds like your wood grain is a sticker set and I was under the impression that the factory limited wood grain was part of the actual part not a laminate. A better explanation or visualization will be necessary.

Ah.. I have a 2000 SR5 and I have this exact same problem too. So far I've peeled it off the wood trim kit that surrounds the controls on the front doors, the passenger side vent and part of the center console. It's a slow, tedious process but it's not hard. I'm being careful to pull slowly with even pressure. I'm also trying to hold the plastic part down that the trim kit is attached to while I'm pulling. The only part I'm worried about is the bit around the steering column. It's not peeling so I might leave it.

The plastic under my wood trim kit is all black. I think it's a nice contrast my gray interior so I'm not looking to replace the wood trim. Hopefully someone else will have a recommendation there.

I'd post pics but I'm at the beach right now.
 
It's real wood under the clear resin coating on my truck. I'm pealing off the clear resin when it starts to separate & putting a clear matte polyurethane on the wood. It looks better than new & you can really see the wood grain.

This. I'm doing almost the same thing. I'm pulling the plastic and then LIGHTLY sanding the wood (the wood veneer is REALLY thin) and staining with MinWax Oak Stain and then the polyurethane. Looks really nice. About 60% done. I just do them when the plastic starts to delaminate on its own. The color is much nicer and it actually LOOKS like wood.

Mine were dealer installed. Some pieces are complete--doors, console--but the pieces on the dash just stick-on. Those I have to do in place. PIA.

Same here, if the plastic isn't peeling off I don't touch it. :bravo:
