Randomly, when the running lights or headlights are turned on and the interior dial are on the cupholder lights and the 4lo/4hi switch lights do not come on unless I firmly hit the side of the cupholder or dash. What is causing them to not work correctly? Are the bulbs about to burn out or is there a bad wire connection?

Physical violence is never the answer. 
Those lights are about $8 from the dealer and closer to $3 on superbrightled.com depending on which lights you need to replace. They're really easy to switch out on your own. Directions to getting to those lights are all over this forum. Just do a quick search for HVAC lights.
Unless you're confident on finding a wiring problem, I would start with replacing the lights.
