interior light addition question.

Hey everyone. I've been a lurker here for a few months now since i got my 4runner. I finally made an account now that i have a question.

I would like to mount some of these LEDs under the dash of my 07 4runner SE. I got the 1.2" ones so i could test them out with minimum investment. There pretty simple, hook right up to 12v power, nothing else needed. I would like them to turn on and off with the rest of the interior light when the doors are opened and closed. Anyone know a good place to tap into one of the existing circuits? Is there an easy way to get to the connections for the lights in the door? Or even the dome light itself?

I attempted a search, but was unsuccessful. If there is already a topic on this, please feel free to redirect me.

thx,

I know on the limited models with the lighted running boards there is wiring that runs on both sides near the door sils. Not sure if that wiring is pre-installed in all runners but if so, might be an easy way to wire it up and keep the length down.

Since his question is answered. Can someone link me to a thread that covers this for a 3rd Gen or tell me what needs to be done.

Which size strip is bright enough?

I was messing around with the 1.2" strips i have. I got 4 of them with the intent to put 2 under each side of the dash. After wiring them into a parallel curcuit and hooking them up to the 12v power supply on my computer, there surprisingly bright.

I would say they are visible in the daylight. Plenty bright at night, but not blindingly bright. I think that 2 strips per side will work well for me, but depending on how bright you want your setup to be, you could deff go with the longer strips.

hope this was helpful.

Yeah. That helps. I don't really care about being able to see them during the day and at night I don't want them to be super bright.

So if I got 1 2.4" for each foot area I would probably be good? They aren't that expensive. Do they come with wires?

I guess if I wanted them to come on with the dome light, like when the door is open, I would just tap into a 12 volt constant from the battery and then the dome light wire.

included wire.

Just measured one of them. ~4'6"

yeah. they have wire attaches to them. like 3-5 ft of it. not sure exacly. i'll check later tonight and give you a better estimate.
