Interior Light Easy Question

The 2-4WD knob is dark, is there supposed to be a light under there to show the positions?

Also, the right sided heating temp knob has the little insert that lights up orange/red(?)...goes on about half the time.

My question is, WTH...?

Doesn't light up. I did a mod to make it illuminated though.

Shame it doesn't light up, I have to turn on the map lights to get a look.
