Interior light on DVD player - 2010 LE

I bought a used 2010 LE a while back that has the roof-mounted DVD player in the back seat. As that player replaces the rear dome light, there is a light on the console itself. The switch as the normal ON-OFF-AUTO settings, but on mine the AUTO setting does not cause the light to shut off when the doors are shut. Does anyone else have this issue, or am I missing something?

I'm thinking your DVD player might be aftermarket. AFAIK roof-mounted DVD players were never an OEM option. This may be the culprit.

I have yet to see a 5'th gen 4R with a 'Factory installed' rear passenger DVD player option on the upper console; my guess is that it was "Dealer installed"! Anyway that's not very relevant here, 'other than' the fact that it won't be a listed/printed option in the 'Toyota, Mitchell, Chilton, Haynes,' etc... electrical wiring manuals. There are a couple things that will cause the lamp to stay on at all times. (1) A wire 'Shorted-to-Gnd' on the "Down-stream" side of the bulb. If that happens the lighting circuit won't need the door switch (further down stream) to provide a ground to complete that circuit.

(2) A sticking door switch will keep the light on; as well as any other lights on the courtesy light circuit. If the dome light is the only lamp that's staying on at all times, then your problem is within that upper console unit; in which case you would remove the DVD player trim panels and begin "Digging" in search for a grounded wire on the 'Switch-side' of the LOAD/BULB! Caution: Be sure to disconnect the battery or pull the courtesy line circuit fuse-Main fusebox ('Dome Fuse 10A') BEFORE you begin dismantling the upper console because it is HOT-AT-ALL-TIMES whether the lights or DVD player are on or not!
