Ordered some LEDs today thanks to the info in this post. I also ordered some bigger ones for the side mirror puddle lights...not sure if they fit but it looked like there was room in there when I removed the mirror from the motor and unscrewed the holster. It is the WLED-xHP15-T. I will let you know if they work, or if they are too powerful...or perhaps someone on here already tried these?
Would you or anyone be able to put together a parts list for all the bulb locations in the 4Runner? And what size LED's fit into these locations. Or is this out there somewhere. I have not looked in the manual yet for it.

Snooper let me know how that turns out with the bigger LEDs for the side mirrors if it works it would look great! I did all of mine but with the same size i just notice i am missing the LEDs for the vanity mirrors would anybody happen to know what kind of bulbs are those

The WLED-xHP15-T sized bulb DOES NOT fit in the mirror puddle light circuits. It is the right type of bulb, but it is just too long and hits the bottom of the inside of the mirror when you try to put it back together. However, these same bulbs DO FIT in the puddle lights that are in the doors of the vehicle, but only if you remove part of the light assembly...something that will become obvious to you once you pull one of them out. They are really bright in the blue, and I don't like how blue it is...thought it would be a cooler blue, but it is really super blue. I would imagine these same bulbs in white are much brighter still. I ordered a few other ones in smaller sizes to see what else will fit in the mirrors.
For anyone interested, you can replace the license plate bulbs too. I pulled mine out and the housings for the lights were installed from the factory backwards. The "left" one, labeled with an "L" was on the right side and vice versa...I had to splice the wires and switch them so that the light points onto the plates and not towards the sides of the bumpers. Shoulda taken it to the dang dealer and made them make it right, but didn't feel like dealing with the BS. The bulbs I have in there now are WLED-x6 in blue, and again, they are TOO blue, so I am gonna try amber or white...don't know the laws on this either, so probably will go back to white. Did anyone else find that their license plate bulb housings were backwards?
One more thing...when you remove the dome light assembly from the headliner, it is helpful to know that only two opposing corners of the assembly have tabs that you can push in to get it to come down and out. You have to push them in at the same time and it pops right out. I think it is front left, and back right, but can't remember for sure.
Hope this stuff helps. And yes, I know this post is almost worthless without pictures...once I get the right lights, I can post some of the assemblies...

The plate lights are supposed to be pointed like that (i guess). Mine are also pointed out towards the bumper and if you look in the manual you will see in the diagram thay are also pointed out too. I thought they were wrong but thats what they look like in the manual and ALL the other runners I looked at on the lot.

Hmmm...that is interesting...oh well...too late now...I already switched 'em! The OEM bulbs in there were less directional than the LEDs...so switching them might have been a good call...I dunno...need to take a closer look at that when I get my white LEDs in the mail...

Outside puddle lights
Snooperstyle where did you purchase you LED's I am looking at your picture and the led you installed in the outside puddle light has more LEDs then the one I got which only had five so I am wondering your must be a bit more brighter! also what would be the item number or part number for those? the brighter the specially at night nice job by the way!!

Thanks! I ordered them from Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories thanks to earlier posts in this thread. The model number for those is WLED-WHP9-T. The color I got is called "White", but you can get them in blue, amber, and green too, which is pretty cool but not my style. I was thinking of doing red door puddle lights and green mirror puddle lights around Christmas time though!!!
Anyways, they are listed on the website under the "Car Bulbs" tab on the top left corner, and then under "Wedge Based Bulbs". These are the High Power SMD Bulbs, and they are really bright! I love 'em! I am gonna put these same ones into my door puddle lights too (yes, they fit!).
I also just ordered two WLED-xHP5 bulbs to try in my map lights, but don't know if they will fit yet. FYI, the WHP9-T bulbs DO NOT fit in the map lights...too big. Once I get it all right, I can post list of what I have and in what location.

License plate lights
Hey Mtn Rush, now that I have the license plate bulb housings switched, and have had time to look at it for a while, I really think it is indeed better now. Now, the lights shine very nicely RIGHT ONTO the license plate, and not as much on my bumper, which I like. I am just still really baffled as to why the left and right ones come stock installed backwards (IMO)!

LEDs figured out
Finally got my LEDs in the correct sizes that I like. Here is what I have in my truck now:
Mirror Puddle Lights -- WLED-WHP9-T (White)
Door Puddle Lights -- WLED-WHP9-T (White) (NOTE: had to remove part of light housing) (The WLED-HP15-T also works in these but is really bright! If you want a color other than white, you should go with the 15LEDs)
Front Overhead Map Lights -- WLED-WHP5 (White) (very bright, but I like them!)
Center Overhead Dome Light -- 3022-W9 Festoon Bulb (White) EDIT: (*NOTE, this bulb fits very tight...it fits, but it involves a slight bending of the terminals)
Rear Gate Cargo Area Lights -- 3022-W9 Festoon Bulb (White) EDIT: (*NOTE, this bulb fits very tight...it fits, but it involves a slight bending of the terminals)
License Plate lights -- WLED-A6 (Amber) (NOTE: may require you to switch the left and right light housings to allow the lights to shine properly onto the license plate and not onto the bumper and back gate painted area, since these are more directional than the OEM bulbs that come in the truck. I did this, but it requires you to cut the wires and extend them)
So far, I love it, and so does my wife! She wants them in her car now. Please note that the ones here are really sort-of florescent looking, but I happen to think it provides better lighting and looks awesome on my Sand Beige Leather. You cannot get "Natural White", "Warm White", or "Cool White" in some of these bulbs, or at least not without special ordering or going to a different vendor. I highly recommend ordering one of each bulb to test out before ordering all of them. superbrightleds.com is very fast, so you don't have to wait that long. Hope this helps people.

Snooper: Please tell me how to get the mirror off. This is the only one I haven't done yet, and I'm afraid to mess it up.

EDIT: I found this posted my member E808H: "You can EASILY "Pop" off the side mirrors. Start at the bottom of the mirror and "Pop" them off just like any old Toyota. Imagine a square of about an inch and a half in diameter in the middle of the glass, thats where the four (4) tabs are that hold the glass into the mirror motor. DO NOT try to REMOVE the whole mirror at this time because there are still two wires that connect the heating element for the defrost feature. I placed a cloth over my mirror housing and hung the glass over the top.
I'd still appreciate it if you or someone would elaborate a bit on this.

To access the puddle lights in the side mirrors:
1. Use the mirror controls inside of the truck to turn them as far in TOWARDS the window as possible.
2. Get out of the car and go put two or three fingers between the outside edge of the mirror housing and the edge of the mirror itself.
3. Then, you can start to gently pry the mirror towards you. You may hear a sort-of harsh clicking noise, which is a sound that the motor makes when you move it around manually. This is OK.
4. Once you get the outside edge of the mirror as far out as you can get, this is when you have to pull kind of hard and then it just pops out toward you. It is a little scary because you feel like you are going to break it.
5. Once it pops loose, you are good to go, and you can just put the mirror on top of the mirror assembly. You might want to use a small rag or something to protect your paint before you sit it up there.
6. The picture here shows where the back of the mirror attaches to the motor mount.
7. To put it back on, I started with the left side, pushed it in a little, and then snapped in the right side. It is a little hard to tell if you reattached it all of the way after you do it, so be sure that you did, or you might lose a mirror on the highway!
