One thing to remember is if you get in an accident, you don't want them to turn into missiles

2. road grime (nothing better than coating $1000 (retail) pair of boards with everything nasty on the road).
3. UV's (much like road grime, that are bad for your skin are just as bad on your ski bases)
Still needs a catch basin. But it works.
I've got Whispbars and a Skybox16 on mine. Zero wind noise from the bars and very little with the box on. It was hard to find a box that wouldn't rub the back gate. I'm pretty much stock everything and if it's over 6' 11" -- I'm clear overhead. I can fit 4 snowboards and 3-4 pairs of skis. Barely notice a MPG difference with the box on. Way better than keeping those wet guys in the cab, and there's room for friends/dogs/bags too! (obviously not in the roof box :drum: )
Check you out! niceStill needs a catch basin. But it works.
To each their own but this seems a bit dramatic. Could say the same thing about covering a $40k truck in road grime. Maybe I am just hard on my gear, but road grime on my ski bases is the least of my worries when it comes to wear and tear on them? I tune them before the season and sometimes again mid-season and am sure to give them a good wipe down before they go in the garage - and that's usually to keep moisture off the edges long-term to prevent rust. Haven't ever had any issues related to either road grime or UV rays. The concern about UV rays honestly made me chuckle.
lol, that crap doesn't have anything to do with the contact surface of your 4runner. I wash it more in the winter than the summer just for that.
Well having skied (and still skiing) a few thousand days, raced, tuned, worked on the mountain at resorts for over a decade of my youth, you learn a thing or two (not much more) There are long traverses where I ski, I mean long 20-30 minutes, without much gravity assist, skiing with shit on your bases slows them down, simple as that. Yeah it may take longer than the time to drive to the hill but UV's do dry out the p-tex which causes fur (you know when your bases start to look white), again slows you down. You may think it's crazy or excessive, that's fine, don't really care. You would think I was OCD then I usually tune and wax multiple times a year according to general conditions (I enjoy it, calms the mind from all the bullshit I deal with at work) Regardless, I am getting a bit lazy in my old age, if I can get a better glide I'll take it.
