After 250K miles of fun and reliability, it’s time for some repairs and upgrades. Most of this rig’s miles will come from long highway approaches so an improved ride there is important. However, once pavement turns to dirt I’d also like to improve my offroad ride and capability. Right now its bone stock except husky mats, an ipod-rigged head unit, keyless entry, and a successfully completed 231mm TBU (thanks to BigFishAllDay’s writeup). Most offroad driving will continue to be low to moderate speeds on fire/mining roads around NM and CO with considerable time spent driving in snow during winter (fingers crossed!!).
Cleaned up:
New wheels and 265/75/16s arrive Tuesday, then I’d like to upgrade/replace the creaky stock suspension/bushings, replace the radiator, plugs, battery, and try the deckplate mod…to start. Any other PM suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
I’m leaning towards the toytec ultimate (including ucas) with 5125s and 906 springs. If I keep the fronts set around 1-2” the 906 springs seem right for my application, and 285s should still work if I end up going that way –please correct me if I’m wrong.
Profilin:
New LBJs (possibly part of a whole LCA assembly –these maybe?), outer tie rod ends, possibly a new steering rack (any opinions on these?), and new sway bar end links w/ bushings are on the list also.
What else would you do/replace/add to the shopping list? What is OK to buy aftermarket and what is worth buying from Toyota?
