nice thread man! I am in SoCal also. Trust me if you move up to the bay you will miss it down here. I lived in San Jose until I was 18 and then I moved to SD.
BTW, what type of cooler is that? It looks awesome (& expensive). Thanks!

Yes I am a bid OCD with this stuff. I try to have the mindset that if something looks modified you probably didn't do it right.
There were be quite a bit about the southern part of the state that I will miss for sure. We will make the drive back down for things like the Japanese classic car show, and Toyotafest, and spend some time doing other things as well while we are down. What I won't miss is the flakes that seem to run the aftermarket performance industry right now. The job offer up there is a whole new direction for me so its something I couldn't pass up.

It was pricey, but cheap compared to some of the other options out there. Really I'm sorry we didn't buy it sooner while we were doing a lot of hikes. Would have been great just to be able to come back to the truck and have cold water waiting. Yes a cooler can do that, but it can be a hassle.
For SEMA this year I grabbed the cooler, but the hotel we were at didn't have fridges in the rooms, and since I didn't want to drag the cooler through the casino to the room, we had to bring ice down daily, still had the food spoil, and had to deal with the water mess, and sloshing sound every time we turned a corner.

I guess it is about time I get a good soldering iron and start practicing.
Just need to troubleshoot why my 4wd indicator isn't lighting up on the dash anymore. Either a bulb, relay, or vacuum hose I'm guessing

As far as a good soldering iron; for shop use I'm still using a cheappy radio shack brand soldering gun, and for home "shop" I have a better weller gun. I know a lot of guys like the butane powered irons, but the good ones are pricey and I'm actually not a huge fan of them myself (i do have a cheap one in my trail tools though). I find the guns heat quicker when needed and an extension cord isn't that inconvenient for me. Now circuit board or smaller stuff is a whole different game, and for that, more money spent on an adjustable iron would be a good idea.
For the large 4 gauge wire I actually use a propane torch. To tin the lead before putting it into a the distribution block I run some flux into the wiring, then heat solder in a small container (I usean old Toyota solid lifter bucket) and then just dip the end of the wire in that. You will most likely have to shape the end a bit to round it out enough to fit what you are going into. Probably not a needed step, but I hate the frayed wires, and inevitable loosening of the wire in the part as the wiring settles around the set screw.
For ring terminal on the 4 gauge I still use the propane torch, but you have to make sure to just heat the terminal and not burn up all the insulation on the wire. Or if you do make sure your heat shrink will cover it.

Hey Stick, dont know much or anything for that matter about the FJ's...but i liked those wheels are ur truck! Is there a certain year/size that fits on the 3rd gens?

I dig it!... not sure there is another truck I would trade it for.
My first post says something about not planning on lifting, or much off road use lol.
There are a couple different FJ wheels, but they should all fit the same as far as I know. Biggest reason I picked them up was a good price, and I got 5 matching wheels. ... plus it was a fun weekend trip to Utah to pick them up

Latest mod was turning the 4Runner into a moving truck lol ... We recently moved up to the bay and the first step was moving my work boxes and a few extra pieces to the new shop...
While we were up there dropping that off we did mange to get the 4runner its first kill ... driving by a field something spooked a flock of birds one of which smacked the passengers side glass and tumbled down the side ..
Next trip up was taking my Scion tC up as well as a few totes in a 4x8 ( i think) trailer. Since the g/f doesn't know what to do with the 3rd pedal in the tC she was lucky enough to drive the truck all the way up.
3 round was moving the cars and well most everything else ..
Once again g/f got the 4Runner while I got stuck with this pig ..
and even after all that I still got to tow a 6x12 trailer for the last bits of crap that wouldn't fit in the moving truck... (sorry didn't snap a pic of that one)
each trip was around 400 miles up the I5 with some mild mountains. (hills if you live near the rockies). Since then it has had to tow the MR2 and Supra again out of storage when we ran into problems, and still has to move those as well as everything else out of storage this month.
To answer your questions:
No I don't know what I would do with out my 4Runner
Yes I feel bad for it .. I'm going to need to buy it something special for the 200k mark (193k now). Any suggestions?

It does have a trans cooler, I just never took pics of the install. Wasn't super cool or anything so I didn't really worry about it at the time. It was done pretty early on.
Oil cooler is a possibility.
As far as the cleaning, shes gotten a couple of quick washes since this all started. (and a full detail and wax before) but right now I'm still basically living of it, and not sure if I should take it in for a detail or hire a maid.
It will get done again once I actually have a place to do it.

That red Supra sure looks nice. You will miss San Diego, I know I did when I moved up to the bay area (Santa Cruz) for 3 years.
