Hi, Would you mind going through all the steps you took to fit 34 inch tires on your 4runner? I just put the 5100 shocks on mine and went as tall as they would allow, and went to the tire shop and was told I would barely be able to fit a 31" tire. I noticed you only did a 2.5 inch lift on yours.

Hi, Would you mind going through all the steps you took to fit 34 inch tires on your 4runner? I just put the 5100 shocks on mine and went as tall as they would allow, and went to the tire shop and was told I would barely be able to fit a 31" tire. I noticed you only did a 2.5 inch lift on yours.
He did a 2.5" suspension lift but also a 1.5" Body Lift, which makes a decent difference in fitting tires.

The 2.5 inches I refer to is the diameter of the shocks. The Metaltech HD rear coils gives me 3" of lift, so the front is pretty much at 3" to almost level it out. None of this really matters though, the suspension still travels the same path as factory, hitting bumps and driving offroad obviously causes the suspension to cycle which means that lift amount has no effect on the trimming you need to do. My 1.5" body lift does effect how much trimming I need to do. For a 285/70/17 (33"), its pretty easy to get them to fit by just removing the mud flaps, pushing wheel liners forward, you may or may not need to do a body mount chop, and maybe a little trimming of the plastic above the body mount. All of this depends on your wheel offset/specs and alignment, more castor means your tire will be further forward and not rub the body mount area as badly.

315/70/17 is actually a 35" tire (Its a nominal measurement vs reality). If you look up the specs they are effectively the same as 35x12.5x17 specs. A 34" tire would be either a 295/70/17 or 305/70/17 I think.

Its pretty straightforward if you figure out the little tips like trying to get a higher caster alignment (5 deg) with an aftermarket UCA, and watching wheel spacing. Enough to space the tire away from the spindle, (my 285/70/17's rubbed there with stock wheels, wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels were necessary) but not too much so that it swings further into the body mount area when turning. Relocate the plastic fender bits where it rubs if possible, then trim the rest until you no longer hear rubbing.

Kansas Rocks had a Frostbite event this weekend and we went even though its been raining/snowing the past week soaking everything, and a blizzard was suppose to blow through on our drive back. Drove over to KC friday night and stayed the night at our parents house, then left in the morning to head south for Kansas Rocks with our parents and brother in tow. When we got there the parking lot was 6" of mud. We drove around the main loop a couple times, stopped for a snack and watched all the rigs driving around, and left earlier then planned and headed back to KC for some pizza and stayed there another night to let the blizzard blow by. Not a whole lot of serious wheeling this time, but good friends and family along more than made up for it.

The mud was so sticky when I power-washed it off it took some of the paint on my sliders with it.

I welded my skid plate crossmember and tire carrier today! I surprised myself, turned out better than I expected. I'm only $250 into the skids and tire carrier.

Still need a tap to relocate the license plate onto the swing-out and a couple more lug nuts to mount the wheel LOL. Also need to figure out how to reinforce the plastic bumper tread plate that is floating 1.5" off the crossmember due to my body lift.

It was super windy today and when I got off work this is what I found jammed under my slider::ohwell:



Not truck-related but I've been working on building a new computer the past couple winter months. Turned out great. I know at least a couple of you guys are PC nerds. It was nice to have something to do while it was too cold to work on the truck.

Here are the specs, pm me for a link to the full list if you are curious. Back to the regularly-scheduled Toyota programming. ECGS 4.56 D60 w/ front ARB might be ordered in a couple months... My brother ordered 37's w/ Methods for his FJ and might switch over to an ECGS D60 too since Diamond is taking forever building his full float 9.5" diff. (Been over a year of waiting). I might be able to convince him to let me borrow the 37's for a photoshoot...

And a lot of time bending tubing, installing, removing, and reinstalling all 11 fans, delidding and applying liquid metal, tearing apart a $1k gpu, looking for leaks when filling the loop, waiting months for EVGA to release that motherboard... all part of the fun. I haven't weighed it but it has to be at least 50 lbs.

Tell you what, if all the components get bricked due to a water leak from one of the fittings you can have it. :lmao:

Couldn't ask for better weather this weekend, finally starting to warm up in Kansas.

I replaced my inner tie rod and dialed in the toe. I've been driving for 5 months with a very crooked steering wheel because the lock nut was stuck on the driver's side, if you remember me posting that way back, page 28.



Nice and straight now; I can even see my tachometer.



Last weekend I installed the Rocksteady Motorsports washer fluid tank. I received an order confirmation but between that and shipping it was over a month with zero communication even though I emailed twice asking for an update. It finally showed up one day.



 
Okay, 37's w/ Method 701's on my brother's truck. Barely street driveable rubs the body mount pretty good, and has stock gearing for now. He's waiting on the Marlin LT kit, should be a pretty simple install at that point and paired with a beefed up rear axle is should kick butt offroad. I kinda want to try it on my truck if possible for a quick photoshoot.
