Inv4drZm's Build Thread

First time trying out the weld table, and first time 'walking the cup'. Nice unicorn puke colors. Are my welds ready for instagram?

Check out the clamps I made.

Sprayed fluid film inside my frame last week, it'll work well with the Eastwood internal frame coating I have already done.

Finally welded in some exhaust hangers for my dual system. All ready to get my DT LT headers installed.

Been researching AFR and EGT gauges, would be easy to install them with my equipment. I'll need to fabricate a gauge mount for 3 or 4 gauges. AFR/EGT/Trans Temp/Boost. Don't really need EGT I guess but it would be cool I think.

Looking at switching over to 1/8" AR400 skid plates for weight savings. My brother can get a 5x8 sheet at work for $350, but also emailed Coastal Offroad to see if they can make some custom skids for us, I like their design. Welding it shouldn't be much more difficult than regular steel.

I used an O2 bung extension because the wiring was too short to reach, however this still causes the dash lights to pop on so I'll be ordering a harness extension.

Bought the AFE CAI, and installed the Toyota roof rack delete kit today.

I have the Torque Pro app I been using. It shows engine and trans temp, but no AFR unfortunately. It does show and allow you to log your short and long term fuel trims, which might help with tuning in the future. I wish it had the AFR. My 5th gen reads AFR, but the 03' doesn't for whatever reason.

Doing some research both gens use a wideband sensor upstream and a narrowband sensor downstream, so I'm not sure why the 5th gen works.

I might try that app on mine to get rid of my monitoring bug.

Yea I've been reading up on trying to tune this V8 when I get the headers installed.
Gadget said the Fuel trims that Torque provides will work, but I would need an AFR gauge to complete my data gathering for making tuning adjustments. He does have a Tundra map I thought about trying when I buy his MAF calibrator.
I still have a shit ton to learn though.
I wonder if there is an equation out there there that would open up the AFR readout on Torque for the 4th gen.
For my 5th gen to read pan and converter temps on Torque, I had to enter a custom pid with an equation that the Prius guys hacked. Someone tried it on the 5th gen and it worked. Been using it for years to keep the trans temps in check.
I would love to find something like this for the AFR readout on the 4th gen. Then you could record the fuel trims and AFR simultaneously with the logging feature in Torque Pro. And not spend a bunch of money on software. But going cheap is more trouble than it's worth sometimes.

Thinking about picking up a $4300 2005 Tundra. V8 single cab 115k miles 4x4 1 owner... Make a great street truck or SAS vehicle.

are all those first gens tundras solid front axle? sequoias? my dads 2004ish tundra was such a great truck

No, Toyota hasn't made a solid front axle vehicle for a very long time, in the US at least.

Not to say I couldn't swap it myself.

10.5" 07+ tundra rear, Land Cruiser 9.5" front, 40" tires, exo cage?

Nope, the 2005 is a 1st GEN, the Million Mile Tundra(s) they are 2007s, which is a 2nd GEN.

1st GENS are from 2000 to 2006.

2nd GENS are from 2007 to present.

Here's the story on the second Million Mile Tundra.

Either way, my brother in law had a later 1st gen, don’t remember what year exactly. That truck was awesome. I turned it down when he offered it to me for a deal not knowing anything about Toyota’s. This was probably in 2009. I regret not buying it now, it would for sure still be going strong.

Some of the 1st GENS did comes with the 4.7 V8 engine...but it was not the VVT-I version that the second GEN Million mile Tundras had and they only had that V8 engine up to 2009 when it was replaced with the 4.6 V8, the second GENS also came with the 5.7 V8 which is still offered today.

05' and 06' had vvti, they swapped over beginning the same year the 4Runner got it.

That's good to know, I was wondering why the source I was reading didn't show that since I knew the T4Rs did have the VVT-I in 2005.

I know that all the US Tundras were and are built in the USA but I can't find a source that tells me if the engines were built in Japan or in the USA, anyone know?

I have wondered if the T4R V8s and the Tundra V8s differ in that aspect.

reminded me that my truck, 2004 v6 is 100% made in japan per the vin. steezy and ironic because im pretty pro-American, just not oblivious to the lack of reliability in most of our vehicles. i like the 4.0 wrangler motor thats years-gone...old muscle cars, thats about it. my dads tundra was great and he is having decent luck with a new model f150 v6 4x4 quad cab.

OP, thatd be a unique vehicle, cant say ive seen those tundras with exo cage. could be a performer for sure.

I guess you could say I'm more against chinese-made than strictly pro-american made.

About the size of new Tacomas but with a V8. Lightweight single cab. Could supercharge and keep it a DD street truck or SAS it and turn it into a truggy.

good call, i was referring to oem vehicles only...

thats sweet btw. my pops had the half doors, maybe access cab for his tundra. im 6'3 and run with dogs, friends, gfs so the single cab life isnt for me. :surfer:

Got the AFE CAI installed. Honestly I like the throttle noise better before the AFE. Seemed smoother, deep, and efficient before. Now its not as refined sounding but maybe long tubes will fix that.
