I'll be fine with waiting since most likely the kit will cost around 10k! Be a few years for me anyways to save up.

Went to Tuttle again. Super muddy and even icy in some spots. Not even the meaty-new 37's could make it up everything.
As we were heading out we ran into a newer Nissan truck, and old Bronco, and brand new Chevy truck that made it into the mud pit area. The Bronco got stuck (4wd wasn't working) then the Nissan tried to get in close to pull it out with a 6ft strap but got stuck too. Until the FJ came along and pulled them both out.

So do I buy this thing at $3600? V8.
Convert to short bed and solid axle the front? Exo cage it all.
The thing is I've been watching the KOH racing stock and modified classes. I don't think this would be great at the stock class, keeping the long bed per rules its about a 20" longer wheelbase than a 4th gen. It might do a little better in the modified class, either with a Solo Motorsports XLT +4.5" kit that pulls 18" of travel or maybe a SAS. I can swap to a short bed and bob it. It would be so light with the Solo kit and short bed....

How's the frame, 4WD or 2WD? Sounds like a good deal if the frame's ok, the long beds I've seen for sale are almost all V6 2WD and at least $2K more.

Its 2.5 hours from me, haven't seen it yet. The bedsides are rusted through above the wheel well, and so is the rear bumper in places. 2WD probably which isn't much of a problem, it might get an atlas and a 8" front diff anyway. 2005 and 2006 had the VVTI so that's a plus. The frame is the main concern, interior looks very nice actually. Though I can remove the bed fairly easily and recondition the frame or even weld where I need to patch.
There was one a couple months ago 1 owner, vvti V8, single cab, 115k miles, 4wd, no visible rust, for $4300. I should have bought it. Checked every box.
Hah, sounds like you're trying to talk yourself into it. That's more rust than I'd be willing to deal with but if it fits your build vision, try and swipe it cheap. Selfishly, I'd love to see where you'd take it.
And no idea what year/options you're looking for, but plenty of decent specimens nearby:

Single cab is a must. 2005 and 2006 has the vvti V8 motor. I'm wanting to swap the long bed the single cabs have to a short bed that the others have. This will shorten the wheelbase around 14" which puts it 6" longer than our 4th gens, around Jeep JK territory. This will be done with either fiberglass bedsides and tube frame rear or a junkyard bed swap.

Just bought my second vehicle. It really does drive nice for 200k miles. Need to fix manifold leaks not to mention the muffler is rusted through but other than that it'll be a nice project truck.
Funny thing is its a 2005 like my 4runner, same color, same engine, same rock chip position in the windshield (bottom left), same busted taillight.

This weekend I will be detailing my Tundra... aka going through tons of clay bar and soap.
Looking for a short bed I can swap onto it, which will shorten the wheelbase 14", require chopping the frame, and moving the fuel tank. Once I do that, and fix the rotted out exhaust system, it'll be a million times better and I'll be pretty happy with it.
It might be possible its on its original timing belt. Carfax and Toyota.com doesn't have an entry for it, and there is no sticker in the engine bay. It has 200k miles so its way overdue. I'll probably try to do it myself.
4runner for the past few days has been a garage queen. I suppose I'll take her out on Friday. Kinda weird.

But there is just something cool about a fast truck with a bench seat.
That and if I mod the Tundra too much I'm back to driving the 4Runner daily.
