Inv4drZm's Build Thread

Might be keeping Donny the Tundra, been trying to sell for the past 8 months and don't want to drop the price anymore. It's good for loading cinder blocks or bumper metal on pallets so I don't ruin my new truck lol.

Timed it 0-60 using the TrackAddict app, figure it's the fastest 'stock' 4.7 Toyota out there. It only weighs 4120lbs and is 2wd w/ LSD 3.90 gears. 7.0s and 7.2s runs.

Took 2 days off from work to catchup on truck projects. Installed Dirt King 0.75" rear lift shackles on my Tundra. Fixed steering shaft/header rub on 4R by grinding down the bolt some more. Tack welded 4 Tundra bumpers (V2 Design) which fits perfectly.

Also started an instagram. Login • Instagram

More welding and grinding on Tundra bumpers. Takes about 1 hour to tack weld, 2 hours to fully weld, and 2 hours to grind and sand. Had to get more MIG gas and welding wire. $25 in gas and $20 in welding wire per bumper.

These 36grit PFERD Combiclick discs are amazing for bumpers, won't build another one without it.

Got a quote from local Toyota dealer for timing belt, water pump and alternator for 4R. It has 87k miles on current timing belt, but 13 years.

They want $2k plus the alternator was going to be another $800. Pretty crazy.

I did the timing belt and alternator on my old 4.7L Tundra and it wasn't a horrible job but working on the nicer 4Runner is a little different, I don't wanna screw it up.

Priced out every single part for TB/WP/Alternator/Radiator/Fan Coupling/Spark Plugs figuring I would refresh the front end. Even after Toyotas 20% off and free shipping for 4th of July, it still saves $1k ordering from RockAuto.

Anything wrong with ordering Denso and Aisin parts from RockAuto vs ordering from Toyota?

I figure I'll put off such a big refresh project until I move and have a shop of my own in a year or so.

In other news, finished my 4 Tundra bumpers and dropped them off to powdercoat today.

Had my 4R long travel control arms quoted at a local shop. They cut and bend, I weld. They quoted each arm separately.

$280 each UCA
$497 each LCA
So $1550 plus tax

Plus all the uniballs, heims, bushings, and hardware is $1000.

Grand total: $2550 plus shocks and axles. Plus powdercoating cost ($400?)

Comparable Dirt King kit is $3800 but my LCA is bent like RCLT so mine has more clearance and is +4.5" so possibly a hair more travel.

Crazy amount of money but if you're going to keep her for a long time...worth it.

Designed in Solidworks?

You'll be fine with Denso and Aisin parts. Only thing I'd recommend going OEM with if they're all original is heater and oil cooler hoses. Including OEM clamps too.

Ordered all the parts needed for a timing belt/ front end refresh on my 4R.

Designing a bracket to fit a Derale transmission cooler on my 19' Tundra.

Got a free toolbox with tools, threw it under my weld table next to my other box and organized everything and cleaned up in preparation for the timing belt change.

Designed and ordered a few 2019-21 Tundra transmission cooler brackets. Toyota removed the factory trans coolers from these model years for some reason.
This weekend going to measure a local 2022 Tundra and design a trans cooler bracket for it too.
Hopefully within a month I have my own website selling these 2 products.

Have 2 guys in the Denver area interested in my 2014+ Tundra bumpers I fabbed, trying to find 1 more guy then I can take a quick weekend trip to deliver 3 of them and get them sold.

Bought a new Milwaukee impact that is smaller than my old Makita and has 3x the power.

Did timing belt/alternator/radiator install yesterday. Took about 9 hours. Everything went smoothly until I went to button back up the last thing, the air intake, it doesn't fit quite right with my 1.75" body lift. I might go back to the factory air intake if it flexes better. New Milwaukee impact worked great.

Need to purchase a few engine bay clips that were already broken, and flush transmission fluid, it looked nasty and I've never touched it previously.

Local Toyota quoted me $2,200 for just labor and tax for only the timing belt, water pump, and alternator. Glad I did it myself. I did it previously on my 4.7L Tundra, and the belt on that was super cracked. The 4R belt looked like new considering it was 13 years old.

Didn't discover the source of this oil leak but replaced the crank pulley seal and used fipg on the 2 pulley bolt threads as instructed so hopefully it's stopped.

In continuing with the maintenance trend, installed my brother's brackets and coolers yesterday for power steering and transmission. He's got a website call Iconic Fabrication and sells brackets and kits for lots of Toyota trucks. Drained and filled the transmission as I don't have any records showing it's ever been done before even though it shifts fine, and it's at 180k miles. Ended up using 18 quarts and checking the level using a temp gun on the pan.

Noticed my CV boots are torn again..... new spark plugs are getting installed today and I might reinstall the factory airbox.

Mileage everything was done at (for my future reference):

Out with the old, in with the new:

Fill funnel:

Both coolers installed:

Bumper installed:

Drove to the carwash, everything seemed fine:

Spark plugs replaced (3 were only finger tight) and stock airbox with AEM drop-in was reinstalled. Clearance between the intake tube and the fan is much better, always made me nervous having the spinning fan only 3/8" away from the intake tube.

Noticed a massive oil leak under the 4Runner after simply backing out of the driveway and reparking. Culprit was a cracked hose between the power steering pump and reservoir, likely stretched by my body lift and dried out over time. Or possibly kinked during recent timing belt install. Hopefully it's fixed now. Still need to replace CV boots next.

Selling transmission cooler brackets for basically all Tundras and Sequoias and DXF digital cut files for my Tundra front bumper on my website:

Full Metal Designs

Let me know of any new product ideas you'd like to see.

Brother's website Iconic Fabrication has stuff for 4Runners and Tacomas.

Selling welding fixture table manufacturing files on my website like the one I made in my garage and have used for years.
And cargo drawer manufacturing files like I built for my 4R.
Available in the next couple weeks hopefully.

Full Metal Designs

Where could I get these files?

This is with the stock length rack.

I absolutely love this setup you've got and have been looking into doing this myself, but if I could just pay for the files and get a head start, that would be awesome. I would want to make some adjustments, but if you want to sell just the file, I would love to make an offer

If anyone else is interested in the LT files, message me or reply here.
