As for the newer cars & trucks not being as durable as the older ones....I would say that in this era of cars moving to more and more plastic parts, and less & less real bumpers, and more and more computer based systems....that the cars of today cannot withstand this kind of abuse. Could you imagine trying to restart a car with a pushbutton ignition system after it spent the night in saltwater? Could you imagine trying to drive a car when the wires sending information from the EFI to the on board "brain" melted in the fire?

Technology has made our vehicles more comfortable & even safer, but there is no way a modern ride could have taken that kind of abuse. They simply do not build cars like that anymore.

I hear what you're saying, but I disagree about Chevy.

I grew up with my parents owning 3 Chevy wagons (1970, 1977, 1984). All of them had at least 150,000 miles when sold. Not one let us down. I have great memories of the vacations travelled in our Chevies.

If Chevy still made a full size, reliable station wagon like the one's my family owned, I'd seriously consider getting one today. The old full size station wagons had a lot of room, and could haul and tow quite a bit.

The current market environment seems to agree with my point of view. Some like yourself have had a good experience but there are many other in comparison that have not.

Unfortunately, one little EMP burst & we'll likely all have large planters on wheels sitting around. (except for those of us that have pre-computer cars like the hero in the video)

the news is reporting last quarter Ford, GM and Dodge are reporting 3 to 5 % increase in profit while Toyota and Honda are reporting double digits. Kinda shows flashy new ideas with no basis on reliability arent going to help Ford or GM one bit huh. On a side note Nissan reported no increase what so ever.
