Will wireless connectivity ever be a reality for 2013 4Rs and older? Maybe with a newer update to the lauded (joke) entune system? I still don't really understand the specifics behind why Toyota engineers had no issue with android devices syncing wirelessly, but Apple was a no go?

My 5s works fine in my 2010 unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

It has to do with Apple's permissions requirements. It isn't for lack of ability per se as much as an unwillingness for Apple to let the system work on their devices. Momma and Pappy, looking out for us... Whether we want it or not...

Sounded like the wireless data for traffic, gas prices etc to me. That's what my answer refers to fwiw.

Are you saying apple has restrictions not allowing connection?

Yes, to clarify, I mean the data services through entune, specifically traffic update. Bluetooth works fine but you cannot login to your entune account w/o being connected via hardwire.

This is correct. iPhone/Apple puts a nanny on there so that if you want to "use your phone in the car," it has to be docked via cable, which disables some of the functions on the phone so you don't do something nasty and dangerous while you are driving...

This is probably the biggest feature that I hate.

That and what it pain it seems to be to update the Navi maps. Not the actual procedure of doing it, just the cost and hoops to get it done.

fyi, data services aren't controlled by toyota. they are controlled by your phone or service. if you have a jailbroken iphone or pay for hotspot, you can connect wirelessly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5C50FsFMi0

Thanks for this! I set it up this morning with my AT&T iPhone and it works well. The Entune application does not need to be running on the phone, and if you leave the hotspot enabled on the phone, everything connects automatically the next time you start the truck.
