iPhone defaulting to music on startup

Over the years I have connected a number of phones to cars over bluetooth which generally worked fine, and my '15 4Runner was also fine until about a month ago where whenever I connect it ignores what I had been listening to and starts playing the top of the alphabetical list of song titles I have loaded on the phone. I don't remember changing any settings or doing any updates etc on the phone or car but am wondering if others have seen this and what they did to solve it?

I have an iphone and this only happens when I close the music app out on the phone. If I leave it open, it will bring me to whatever I was listening to, if it was closed it brings me to the first song that starts with the letter A. Hope this helps.

My last car did that and it drove me crazy to hear the same song everytime I got in the car so I downloaded a silent track and renamed it to begin with a number (01). When it started up it was silent and then I could pick what I wanted to listen to. Not a fix for an annoying behavior but did relieve a very annoying trait of the system.

I don't remember what I did to fix it, but I had the same problem. It's in your settings for sure. Check both the phone and radio settings...damn, just can't remember what I did to make it stop...but it definitely stopped after I changed the settings somewhere.

I can only handle the opening chords to Ace in the Hole a limited number of times before I go crazy. I like your idea here.

There is a software update for the head unit that may fix that. It is very easy to do but getting the file on your own to do the update is the hard part. Most dealers will do it for free. It is literally a 10 minute or less job.
