iPod and Nav Question

What is the best way of hooking up an iPod to a 2005 4Runner Limited with navigation so you could listen to it through the radio and control it through the steering wheel controls (not a cassette adaptor or FM tuner)? I did a search and was confused after reading all of the threads. I went to www.mp3yourcar.com and wasn't sure if the product they listed was compatible with the nav. I have heard and read about the icelink and was wondering how it works? Thanks for any help in advance!!

Use a tape adapter with a thin wire like I do for the Ipod and the Sat Radio. I can show you if you like when you come in.

Where did you get your tape adaptor with a thin wire? I want to use my IPod in mine and the ITrip just sucks.

I got my cassette adapter at Best Buy. It is made by Sony and it plugs into the headphone jack of your iPod.

How is the sound quality? Are there RCA jacks or line in jacks anywhere on the Navi radio? Any other ways since the iTrip sucks?

The sound quality is ok. You hear a constant hum in the background but it is not that bad. The other thing is sometimes mine skips a little. I agree that the itrip stinks. Did you ever try the Monster FM tuner? It is supposed to be better than the itrip. I don't know about 2004 Navigation but on the 2005's there is no way of hooking an iPod directly to the unit. In the 2005's, you are stuck with the FM tuner because there is not even a tape deck on it.

Your's must be a 2005 because I think that is one of the changes from previous years. I don't think there is any other solution to this but the FM tuner. I have spoken to a few radio people and they said you can't hook anything into the nav unit.

Is there some sort of auxilliary input that can be used (i.e. for the optional 6-CD changer) to run a line-level input?

Otherwise the factory unit is coming out so my Alpine with aux inputs can play my iPod without static and noise.

I would think you would need a source button with an AUX option in order for this to be true but I could be wrong.

I guess since I haven't seen mine yet, I'm hoping to solicit experience from somebody who's ripped the head unit out to find what it's capable of. I would think that the optional 6-CD changer has an interface to the head unit, somehow controlled by a button on the radio that acts as an aux input. Especially given the influx of XM and Sirius installations...

Just thinking out loud.

Also, what is the layout of the standard 6-speaker stereo? Are there tweeters in the A-pillars or are they in the front door speakers? (non-JBL)
