Is a lock necessary on storage drawer on T4R with keyless entry?

So I went and tried this out in my 4runner earlier, and I must've remembered wrong. I could've sworn I was able to unlock through an open window, guess I'm getting old, lol.

The master unlock switches on the front drivers and passenger doors function exactly how OP described, on my non-smart key 4runner too. So in case someone in the future is searching and wondering...once the factory alarm is armed the unlock function of the master unlock switches at the front doors are disabled

I've left my kids in the 4runner (LE) while I run into the store but I take the key fob with me. If I leave the car running, they have to manually lock the doors inside because the key fob won't do it. When I come back to the car, the key fob won't unlock the doors either so now I'm locked out. The kids have to unlock the doors for me.

Is there a better way?

Take them inside with you when you go to the store. Leaving children in a car w/ the keys in and ignition running isn't a good idea.

You are probably right. Next time I will send the kids into the store for me and lock myself in the car. :cheers:

I'm usually not one to tell someone how to run their ship, but IMO it's kind of dangerous to leave kiddies with the keys in the ignition and engine running. :lookout:

Appreciate the concern. I don't usually leave it running but we were having some extreme temps and it was a very brief time. Kids are older so no worries. Thanks again.

No need to explain, I'm sure the situation just sounded much worse typing it out and relaying it over the internet, lol. I'm just surprised at the number of people that don't know you can still drive off without the smart key present, that's why I mentioned it (in case you were under this impression ).

So let me get this straight....If I am sitting in the passenger seat of your vehicle and you get out, lock the door and take the key fob, then I am stuck? Imprisoned? Have to write a sign that says "HELP!" hold it up to the window and hope someone can free me from the clutches of your LE?
