Is a new shock necessary for a 2" rear spacer lift?

I'm in the process of planning a mall crawling build with a 3"front and 2" rear spacer lift and 285 Tires.

Some recommend a new rear strut with a 2" spacer and some don't.

I drive 99% on the road and highways, any trail I do is probably a gravel road to a camp site or an unpaved parking lot or something similar.

Planning on installing proper shocks once these stock ones wear out. I have 60k on the truck now and drive 20k per year

Can I install this type of spacer lift without a new rear strut?

I believe 1" is about all you can go on the stock rear shock.

Daystar sells a 2.5" front 1.5" rear leveling kit. Thats what I have on right now with stock suspension. I'll be taking it off this weekend to install Kings.

Okay thanks for the responses guys.

What would be a good value rear shock that could extend with a 2" rear spacer?

from quickly looking around, procomp sells some that might work.

Not sure if i'll find a better price point.

(I know I know, please don't rip into me for trying to cheap out on rear shocks, I just don't want to blow out the stock ones from an occasional dirt pothole might see once or twice a year)

Hey man, you should check into the Bilstein 5100's I've ran them on my Jeeps and Trucks. They are a great shock for bad roads, but can ride a little stiffer on smooth roads. If I can put my opinion on it. I feel like driving over a washboard road is very nice with them, but hitting a pot hole or something is a little rougher. They are usually pretty reasonably priced.

I had a 1.5" Daystar spacer on the rear of mine for a while with the stock shocks. Something always felt a little off about the rear. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what made me feel that way but I'm sure you've experienced your vehicle not reacting quite right. After a couple of months I put 5100's on the rear and the strangeness went away.
