Is it me or...

This happens around here and especially this time of the year. Most people are dealing with snow and rain, so mods and wheeling is at a minimum. Also people are waiting for their tax returns or recouping funds from the holidays. I've been around for 4 years and this always happens. A lot of the big wheelers/heavy modders are inactive or seldom post.

Has there been less people on? It seems kinda dead on the forum lately but it could just be me. Where are my fellow 3rd geners at?

Isnt the 1st and 2nd gen pages dead? i mean who even goes there besides to look at pictures. lol! well as the new 4runners come out people move towards them and start upgrading. so it only seems fair that the crowd would be thinning out.

I'm not too surprised. These are kind of old vehicles. Every day less and less of them are on the road or usable. I'm sure some people have "upgraded" to newer runners or other vehicles as well.

Not gunna pretend like I didn't consider it... The 3rd gens are getting maintenance heavy as they age as a generation. Most parts need to be factory parts, which are expensive... I can see why these aren't for everyone. The 4th gens are just designed much better, don't require a supercharger to get moving, and don't need the heavy maintenance yet as a generation...

That said, talk about the most capable rig for the money. A Tacoma of the same age and milliage goes for a couple grand more. Want a 4 door one that seats 4 like these do and your in the $10K plus range easy still. Dollar for dollar I think these are still an amazing platform for someone who needs the 4 seats. Thats why I got mine, couldn't afford the 4 door as a toy, got my 4runner at seriously half the price, and it is 100% as capable if not more because of the added rear tire weight... Just my 2 cents

It doesn't help that a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to call up some book marked pages for my 08 this forum was DEAD. The server was down or something for several hours. I needed to turn off the maintenance light and program new keys. I finally found the codes on another forum which of course I joined. (toyota120.com)

As for 3rd gens being a dying breed, at any stop light in my area you will see 3 or 4 in good condition. As a 1st gen, 3rd gen and 4th gen owner I'd have to say the 3rd gen is the most practical of them all. 4th gen: I hate the dumb turny dial for 4WD, the euro style automatic shifter, and the plastic interior. I love the 1st gen in the snow: no ABS!
