is it ok to drive with leaky axles?

Mine had a similar leak on both sides. I replaced the loose clamps with hose clamps. I used "smooth band" hose clamps, which are supposedly less likely to cut into the rubber, and I used a Dremel to grind them down a few mm in width so they would fit in the groove on the boot. One of them has been fine for a couple years since I did that, and the other I fixed just a few weeks ago. So if you repair them with hose clamps I expect they will last at least a few more years before needing replacement. You'll probably hear clicking before the axle fails, so you can wait for that.

Cleaning, re-greasing, and replacing the boot is extremely messy, so most people prefer to just replace.

My inners started to leak after lifting.
I just chinsed out and put the screw-type band clamps over the top of the OEM band clamps...2+ years no leak...have the OEM boot kit for when i need it.

Oriliey's for the band clamps.

Others have mentioned that when you replace the band clamps to get the rounded edge so it wont cut the CV boots.
You can just sand the band clamps/edges.
Don't have to order some 'special' rounded edge clamps.
